Question re my results from Lumenis Duet on back

Hi, I have had two treatments with the Lumenis Lightsheer Duet to remove hair form my back and shoulders. My response seems to have been very good as visually things look much better than they did when I started. The thing is though, the long, coarse, thick black hair seems to have been repalced by much smaller, shorter black hair. If I run my hand along my back this hair feels like stubble. I’m not really complaining as things look much better now. I do have two questions though:

(i) is this normal or should I expect complete baldness? and

(ii) is there a risk that these little hairs will grow back into longer thicker hairs like the ones I started with?

You’re not providing enough information for us to help. What were the settings? Did you see shedding of all treated hair after each treatment? How far apart were the treatments?

Also, please read the FAQs below. Hair grows in cycles. If everything is going right, you’re not seeing the same hair.

Sorry I’m not sure what settings were used I’ll ask next time i’m in.

I had my second treatment 5 weeks after the first and will have my third 4 weeks after the second. Short intervals I know, but like I say things seem to be going ok and the nurse who is administering the treatment said 4 weeks is the minimum permissble interval between treatments (I want to get this done quick so I booked short intervals).

I’m not sure about complete shedding. I don’t think so as the stubble seems to have always been there. It’s almost like it could be the orginal hair and rather than falling out its just stopped growing. Does that happen?

It would help if you can call and write down the spot size, joules and pulse width used. That way, you can come in next time equipped with knowledge, knowing what to ask for for best results.

That treatment spacing is WAY too short. You shouldn’t have anything to treat at that point. If you do, something is not going right.

Your thinking is not correct. You’re basically treating before new hair has time to grow in, so you’re wasting your money. You won’t be done faster overall, you’ll just need a lot more treatments overall. Hair grows in cycles and you need to allow the hair in the next cycle to come in in order to kill it. For this area, typically spacing is 10-12 weeks.

There is also no way to tell whether the treatment is working if you’re not allowing time for the hair to shed and to judge what has not shed and needs to be touched up at 3 weeks for free.

Yes, hair can stop growing, but it will still fall out eventually. You need to wait for that. Pepperspots are hairs stuck in the follicles and they take longer to come out.
