I’m new to this forum. I have light skin (type 2). I have English skin with dark thicker Italian hair. I am interested in removing hair from chest, arms, shoulders, and full lower body.
I have read the FAQ and it appears to be stating that Alexandrite or Diode lasers would be more affective for my skin type. Either that or it sounds like maybe just the YAG is equally effective with light skin but more effective with darker skin tones.
I was quoted 1500$ per full body treatment at a place with a Diode laser, or 850$ per full body treatment (special offer they were having) at a large well-known clinic that uses a YAG laser.
I have two questions:
Is it true that I may need more treatments with a YAG laser?
Will a YAG laser be less effective for lighter skin types (or is it just vice versa)?
Basically I need to weigh the financial differences vs possible results. Both clinics seem to have a good reputation. Any feedback is good feedback.
Thanks for taking the time to read this new members post
Where in Canada are you? There are previous recommendations here for various parts of Canada if you run a search. I’m sure there are a lot more clinics near you than just those two.
Yags are as effective on coarse hair compared to an alex or a diode, but they’re a lot less effective on finer hair. So, once your hair starts getting finer after a few treatments, you won’t be getting as much out of them. Of course, expertise matters a lot. Getting treated with a Yag by someone who knows what they’re doing is better than being treated with a diode by someone who’s not that experienced. You need to check out more clinics and try to find someone with an alexandrite laser like GentleLASE if you can. Also, only treat hair that is dark, coarse, and dense. If your shoulders don’t have that type of hair, I would treat them with electrolysis as laser can stimulate more growth on that area on men if the hair is finer and sparse there.
I’m in Toronto. Thank you for the advice. I’ll take a look in the area and try for an Alexandrite laser. Perhaps I’ll go with 2 or 3 sessions with the YAG as the price is right and I have thick hair. After that I can use a different laser depending on my results.
