Question - Missed Areas?

I had my first LightSheer treatment yesterday on my underarms and bikini area, using 32 and 29 fluences, respectively (skin type III). If anyone has any questions about the treatments please feel free to ask me, I thoroughly enjoyed having my first treatment but it did hurt (a lot at times). The entire process took around 40 minutes and it was done by an RN and her assistant. I’m in San Diego, CA if anyone wants a referral by private message.

My main question is this… the pulses were done in horizontal lines. However, there are obviously some spots that she didn’t get–I can tell because I can see one tiny pink patch from each “shot” (for lack of a better word), and there are areas around these pink spots that are not pink and have not-burned hair growing. There is maybe 5mm of this untreated space in between each treated line. Is this normal?

I’ve seen pictures of people with laser burns, and it looks like they did not have “solid” treatments either–almost more like there is an red eraser-sized patch every 1.5 centimeters or so. Does this mean that the in-between areas were not treated? I hope that makes sense…

Anyway, I’ll keep everyone posted with my laser journey. I had tried flash thermolysis with absolutely no success, in fact somehow I seem to have 2-3 times more hair now than before I started treatments, maybe because my electrologist plucked the hair, I don’t know. I know I will get slammed for being anti-electrolysis on this board, but I just want to share my side of the story as a consumer rather than as an electrologist. I think laser does deserve a chance at removing hair even though it may not work on some people. So, I will let everyone know how the laser treatments go!

Hi,
I’m in San Diego too. Can you tell me the name of laser center/doctor and the price doing the underarms? And what skin type are you and what type of laser they used on you?
Thanks a lot!

I believe that was your experience with what you did, and who you did it with.

As for the LASER situation, yes, those in-between spots are untreated, and have to be done later in future treatments. If one treated the whole area so as to eliminate that from happening, one would surely have damage from overlapping treatments. The LASER handpiece can not be reliably used to blanket an area without overlapping treatments.

I am sorry that it seems you had a lousey electrologist. There are a lot of them out there.

I hope you come back and post your further treatment information.

It all comes down to how qualified the practitioner is. If electrolysis is done correctly, there is no way it should cause more hair to grow. The same is true for laser with rare exceptions.

Standard practice for most lasers is to overlap the spots by 10%. The intensity of the spot is probably not constant as it gets to the outer edges. That’s why you see areas that are more red than others. If they did not overlap you would have even bigger gaps between areas that look treated vs. untreated.

No matter what, you can cover a larger area in an hour with a laser than you can with electrolysis. Sure you can blanket an area with electrolysis, but that area is much smaller than would be covered by laser in the same time period.

When I saw some hair being missed and growing out within two weeks, I went back to the Laser clinic and had a few patches for free. The place where I had my Laser treatment actually suggested me to go back in two weeks’ time for those missed patched.

Was that just me? This forum was filled with a huge number of anti-Laser posts few years back. Anti-Laser postings that are biased and misleading, some even suggested laser could cause cancer.
Some tried to infer that laser is as mystery and/or dangerous as X-ray etc,
Some even tried to confuse members with words like “radiation” and “radioactive.”

I am listening.
and I will counter the other way, as always.
