Hi, I was just wondering if there is a certain age limit recommended for laser treatment?
Children can have laser hair removal. They need to be motivated however, so they can cooperate with the plan.
The youngest laser client I know of had several sessions on her arms and face when she was in 6th grade. She said it was the most pain she ever experienced and wouldn’t go back. Unfortunately, laser stimulated the hair on her face and neck. She was left with dark, long coarse hair she didn’t have before. Her arms were patchy and the areas that still had hair were longer and coarser. She came to me, with her mother in 2005 as an 18 year old, for electrolysis. She could only stand it for no more than 10 minutes and I couldn’t even give her the correct amount of energy to affect the hair. I thought I had a couple of aces up my sleeve, but after several attempts to help her, I wanted to give up. I told her and her mom that money was being wasted and maybe she would like to try electrolysis later or even retry laser. So, she stopped and I began work on her mom instead. I finished Mom within a year and now this jittery 18 year old has turned twenty and requested an appointment to try this again, based on her mothers satisfaction with electrolysis. This story is fresh in my mind because I actually saw her this afternoon and we tried this again. She tolerated 50 minutes and will be back Monday and Tuesday to continue toward first full clearance. Sometimes, kids need to mature and think about these hair removal options. She wasn’t forced or bribed to get hair removal as a 6th grader and she wasn’t pressured to restart a plan. She eventually came back and is doing well on her own accord.
How old is the child you are asking this question for? What color of hair? What area? What is the child’s motivation level?

The specific age is 18 years old. The hair is not quite dark but I believe it is getting there sooner or later and it is in the chest and stomach region.
Age is no problem. Laser responds best to coarse, dark hair on pale skin. Otherwise, your money would best be spent on electrolysis.

Also, keep in mind that your body will continue developing NEW hair, probably at least until you’re 25-30. So you can start now, but be prepared for touchups for new hairs.
