Question about Touch Up/Missed Spots

I had my first laser hair removal treatment on my legs 17 days ago. (I’m a female with type 3 skin. The GentleLASE laser was used at 16 joules and 15 mm spot size.) Since it’s been over two weeks, I have been shedding, but there are several areas on my thighs that have strips/patches of hair. The strips/patches are not shedding and just keep on growing (the hairs are already half an inch long!). I’ve gently tugged on those hairs and they are firmly rooted in my skin. Even though I’m not done with the shedding phase, obviously those strips/patches of hairs are not going to shed.

The doctor performing the lasering was over booked on that day so he was rushing it a bit and I think that’s why he missed large areas on my thighs. Plus, lasering full legs and butt can take a long time, so missed spots would happen. I do plan on going back for a touch up next week (I’ll go get a touch up if it’s free, but if it’s not, then hopefully it’ll be a reasonable price).

So now I’m wondering won’t lasering the miss hairs throw off the time frame with rest of the hairs?

Basically, if I get a touch up over 3 weeks after my first treatment, and then when I go for my second treatment, won’t it be too soon for the areas that got touched up?

Hopefully, this makes sense.

I took pictures of my thighs, so after I get then developed and scan them into the computer, I’ll post them on here within a few days.

Thanks everyone!

Same thing happened to me on my up arms. I thought the same thing you did. They make you wait 3 wks before touch-up. I’ve been going every 10 wks so it should be ok to continue as normally scheduled. If you get a 5 wk span after touch-up you should catch most of the growth stage you’re looking for on the touch-up areas. You also shouldn’t miss too much of the growth stage on the nonmissed areas in the 1st treatment. Its tough enough to get this in synch let alone having them miss spots. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />
Be sure to shave/trim spots missed before touch-up treatment. They told me to leave them so they could see missed spots. They were busy and lasered the longer hairs. I got these whipping marks where the long hair heated up against the skin, not good. Good luck.

Touch-ups should be free-Be demanding-the price you’re paying demands the job be done right the first time.

I diagree with grumpy. Call the doctors office. Explain that a few areas were missed and request a touch-up appointment. The sooner, the better. Ask them if they you should shave those areas before coming in. I think they will say no. My guy uses a white marker to circle them. Then shaves that area. Then lases it. Make sure that they have shaved the area before they laser it.

so that’s my 2 cents

i wouldn’t worry about it too much unless they’re very large areas…so at least 30-40% of the entire area treated missed.

30-40%? But in this post http://www.hairtell.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/30818/an/0/page/4#30818 you said 20-30%.

Here are pictures of my thighs that show how much was missed:

Sorry about the bad quality of the pictures.

Do you guys think it’s enough for me to need a touch up?

hmm…I would probably ask for a touch-up in this case. It looks like large areas…although of course the entire leg is a large area. he doesn’t like to do touch-ups. I’ve only been able to get one once when a lot was missed. he prefers if you examine the area right after he’s done to have him do any areas that you think were missed. although i don’t find that too effective sometimes, because it’s hard to tell. i would say since you’re paying a lot and for a large area, it’s worth it to ask for one-time touch-up. you can call and talk to him directly and express your concern. that’s what i did. good luck <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Yeah, he told me to examine the area after he was done to have him do any areas that were missed, and that is hard to tell. Plus since we took so long and he was in a hurry to leave, I didn’t want to take up any more of his time.

Does he do touch ups for free?

Also, how long did you wait to get your touch up? And did it throw off your time frame?

he did that one for free, but he wasn’t too excited to do it. if you felt rushed, i would still ask him. it won’t throw anything off if you get it done within 3-5 weeks.

Alright! I made a touch up appointment for this monday at 2:30. I couldn’t talk directly to Dr. Babapour, but the secretary seemed fine with me getting the touch up. Should I call back and request to talk directly to Dr. Babapour?

Also, should I shave the area a few days before I go like I normally do, or should I go as is to show him the missed spots?

if you can shave so that stubble is visible enough, then shave. i would still talk to him on the phone to confirm that it will be free.

Hey! I just called back his office and asked the secretary to have him call me back!

I’ll shave today so by monday I’ll definitely have visible stubble that he can’t miss.

Yo! I just got off the phone with Dr. Babapour and explained everything. He actually didn’t sound too upset, to my relief! But he was hesitant in believing if the hairs were really missed. He says he he’s usually quite accurate when lasering, which I believe to be true because I think he was just so overbooked and in a rush that particular day so he just ended up missing those hairs.

But I’m still not quite sure if I should shave before I go, or show him the hair. He said I could shave before or he could shave it himself. …Actually, I think I will shave myself and show him the pictures of the missed hairs.

I had my touch up today. It was free. Dr. Babapour was in a good mood so he wasn’t upset about doing the touch up! I showed him the pictures of my missed spots, and he got all the spots I wanted done! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> Afterward he gave me refrigerated aloe vera gel and ice packs to apply on the lasered areas. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Very nice!

I’m just going to make appointments with him on Mondays from now on! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Did he ONLY laser your missed spots, or did he also laser some of the smooth areas as well? (since it’s hard to target random patches of hair all the time, especially if there is a lot).

The same thing happened to me. The reason I’m asking is because my missed spots are all over the place, and i’m afraid it would throw the whole hair cycle out of balance.

What are your post-treatment results??

He only lasered the missed spots. I shaved 3 days before my touch up, so none of the missed areas would be missed again. Also, I brought the pictures of my missed areas.

I was afraid my touch up would throw off my hair cycle too, but I had my touch up 3 weeks after my treatment, and it didn’t throw it off at all. Try to get your touch up no later than 4 weeks from your last treament.

My post treament results were fine. The areas shed. Nine weeks after my treament (6 weeks post touch up), I had my next treatment without hair cycle problems.

Thanks for your answer. I guess it will be ok to get a touch up.

Just one more question: did you notice that the sections that were lasered in your first treatment grew out before the sections in the touch up treatment? Didn’t it look odd, let’s say 6 weeks after the treatment, that some areas grew out and some did not? (because the treatments were 3 weeks apart)?

I have a huge problem with “pepperspots” and burn marks so my legs always look odd. After my first treatment, the lasered areas either shed or remained as pepperspots, and the missed areas just grew like normal hair. And after I had my touch up, the touch up areas either shed or became pepperspots and blended with all the other pepperspots.
