Question about not shaving before a treatment

Just curious what everyone would do if this was you. Here’s my situation though, done a lot of laser obviously then about 6 months ago I bought this deal for $249 when group buy sites had LHR on there non stop. It was for 1 year unlimited laser on full legs, chest and forearms with LightSheer. I went for one treatment, worked well had good shedding but then she told me she is selling it and bought 2 Soprano XLs. Emailed the deal company so they refunded me $50. I went and did the Soprano XL on my next treatment and to my surprise had 100% shedding much better than the LightSheer.

Now about 2 treatments ago, she suddenly started going up way higher on my arms than just forearms, doing the whole things. I have very light fine hair on my upper arms but figured whatever. It hurt though since it wasn’t shaved. At this session she also said that legs have a long growth cycle and that we don’t need to treat them as often, so she asked me to point out what areas seemed to be missed or had the most growth, which were my knees and some other areas. She put it in the non SHR mode, the one that works like LightSheer and did those areas.

Then on my last treatment, she did everywhere in that mode and not the SHR mode. She said it’s better for finer hairs as most the dark coarse hair has been eliminated. She once again kept doing it on my upper arms where I said it hurt like mad and she said it’s because I’m not shaved up there. On my legs it was really painful as well, total opposite of SHR mode. The only thing is she told me NOT to shave before my next treatment so she could see the progress.

Here’s my concern. In the room it’s literally a chair, the bed, the Soprano XL and a cupboard which I’m pretty sure didn’t have much in it. I’m worried that I won’t shave and that she’ll do the laser with my legs fully hairy. That would be bad obviously and a waste, but I figure since I’ve already paid for a years worth and done like 6 sessions or so, if she did do that I could just not go back again and there’s no issue. My concern is that it will hurt like mad or burn or something. So not sure what I should do. Tempted to say forget it and go back to my old clinic with the Apogee Elite where I’ve got great results, but although they are super inexpensive for treatments, full legs are $350 which is super expensive and more than I’d want to spend especially since I’d need multiple treatments. Just don’t want to waste my time going to this current place if they think it’s normal to do a treatment without shaving.

You can just go and show her the growth one day and if she feels (and you too) that the growth is enough to warrant more treatments, go home, shave and schedule an appointment.

I already have the appointment scheduled, we have to do it at each one since they’re so busy. Plus they’re about 45 minutes from my home so that’s not really an option. I’m thinking I may actually just forget it all and bite the bullet and just pay the $350 to go to my clinic with the Apogee where I know I’ll get results. Especially if legs have such a long growth cycle it’s not like I’ll be shelling out $350 every month or anything.

Use an electric razor that won’t shave too closely - so she can still see where the hair is, but the laser will still work. In other words, try to have stubble.

Or, go there unshaved, but bring a razor with you.

She can draw on your skin with a highlight magic marker around any areas she wants to remember, and then you can shave off the hairs.

Lasering hairs that haven’t been cut down to at least stubble is a waste of time.

Yeah I agree. I just feel like me shaving there isn’t part of her plan. Whether I bring a razor or not, I’m 6’1 so shaving my legs isn’t a 2 minute process. My next appointment isn’t until March at least so I should have a lot more regrowth. I have areas that are completely bare still but others look unchanged from when I started laser so just thinking I might pay full price at my other clinic.

I’m 90% sure that lasering unshaved hair simply doesn’t work - the energy that should turn into heat still turns into heat, but the heat is dispersed across a larger hair. Sounds like a scam of some sort.

The department of homeland security has informed me that I must state that it is the official stance of the United States that arguments about heat dispersal over large areas lowering the effect of heat damage is counter to the official stance of the leadership of the United States, and as such may constitute Terrorist Speech.

After all, if the addition of a few millimeters of hair can reduce the effectiveness of a heat LASER, then what will the addition of about 100 stories of steel and concrete do to the heat dispersal of…

Once his re-education, er, um, medical problem has been addressed, he will return to you, fit as a fiddle, and just as helpful as usual. He will also limit his comments to hair removal.
