Question About Laser On No-hair Areas

Is it true that if a laser is used on areas where there is sparce hair growth or none at all, that hair will grow thick in that area?

I ask because the doctor that did my procedure on my face did not limit the laser to just my stubble, he also did areas that I don’t shave due to having a few stray hairs or none at all.

Should I be concerned?

I have skin type IV and a Cutera Coolglide was used.

What joules were used with the coolglide? I remember reading in your other post you said that the settings were low.

Low settings used on the areas on the face of a woman with “no hair” (peach fuzz hair perhaps) can result to laser induced hair growth. Some women on this board have experienced that (like laserhater).

I thought you said in your other post that you did your research?

You’ll just have to wait and see if there is any laser induced growth on your face.

I did do my research but I never came across this instance…sorry…

It can happen on a woman’s face or men’s upper arms/shoulders areas. It’s not a rule and doesn’t happen to everyone, but a few people here have reported this instance. The way to avoid this from potentially happening is only treating areas with coarse pretty dense growth and using high settings.

Great thank you!!! This was the info I was looking for. I will talk to my doctor on my next appt and let him know my fears about this. For now, I will watch those areas closely to see if I get hair growth where there was none before.

I truly appreciate your kind reply. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I had my tech zap a few placces on my shoulders and back where there were stray hairs. It’s now nearly a year later, and I’ve got considerably more hair there (specifically on the mid and rear delts, and upper traps). I’m not sure I can blame it on the laser though - I was 23, so it’s possible I was still growing new hair, and it would have happened regardless.

Anyway, my question is - if hair growth is induced by laser in a particular area, can you use laser to remove it as you would anywhere else?

yes, if it’s dense and dark enough. if it’s still sparse, and just a bit longer and darker, i would get those with electrolysis.
