Purpose of Gel ?

How many of you have had clear Gel put on the area prior to treatment ?

I had this done every time when using the Lightsheer.Does this protect the skin or does it just help the handpeice “glide” better ?

The gel they use on me is kept in a refrigerator. So I have to think at least one of the purposes of it is to help prevent burning. I ought I read somewhere that it also helps conduct the light into the hair follicles but I am not sure about that.
