Public Outreach and Electrolysis.

Love it, Jossie. My sentiments exactly!

Electrologists bashing other electrologists intrigues me a bit. Think about this. There is a lot of hair to remove in this world. We work on the hairy and the hairy have hairy children and then we work on their children… There are not enough of us, but there will always be plenty of steady work beyond what we can handle because 9 out if 10 people want hair removed.

If an electrologist has a flourishing practice, then she or he is doing something right, without trying to pull a Tonya Harding on another electrologist in her locale. Competition? No one should fear someone who can do what they can do, unless their work and business plan is inferior to what their competitor offers. I share and care about a new electrologist who may call me for some advice. I give them my all, hoping that I can freely tell my clients to go see my coleague when I get backed up or if I go on vacation. I even tell some of my clients, if I die tomorrow, continue your treatments with my colleague, “Matilda” or “Marcus” (made-up names) down the street because she or HE is a great electrologist .

Funny thing about “bashing.” I don’t think it’s actually a business thing; I have found that it’s a “personality trait.”

For example, the main reason I didn’t sue Nancy for “all she’s got,” is because I knew her, and in her own odd way she really didn’t mean to injure me. She just gets these “ideas” and often said that she is “spiritual and can know things before other do.”

Of course the effects of her story were negative, but I still (even to this day) don’t really believe she had anything against me. Often the “story telling type” people are not mean-spirited, it’s just sort of the way they are.

I agree that it can be a personality trait, but I also believe that some practitioners encourage others (by example) to behave in such a way. It is really sad.

The reality is that the day to day existence of the average electrolysis practitioner, and the state of the industry itself dovetail to maximize many negatives.

Because the so-called educational system in the industry leaves many to figure things out on their own (often after shelling out thousands, or tens of thousands) those who gain a sustainable business often have the feeling of being a self educated, self made person. This has its own mental components leading to some behaviors and mind sets.

Next up, our work lives can either be well regimented, or take over our entire lives, bulldozing little things like meal schedules, relaxation, recreation, rest, and interaction with anyone outside of the four walls of our office and business and industry contacts, if any. Something as “small” as missing meals on a regular basis can cause imbalanced brain chemistry, thus leading to anything from scattered irritability, to intermittent moody behavior, to pellagra, which, in today’s society will be misdiagnosed as schizophrenia, and the meds mistakenly given will have their own side effects.

There are many a practitioner in this business who needs to take a hand full of sunflower seeds, and cashews, and start eating fresh foods on a hard and fast daily schedule so that they can become their reasonable, cuddly selves again.

There are people I never met who have savaged my character and invented an alternate personality for me to discredit me, and those I called my friends who either took pot shots, back stabbed, or in the worst cases, see-sawed between being my best of friend, to attacking me out of nowhere. I even had people that I traveled great distances to help out steal from me, spread lies about me, and say that I’m full of S—, even as they are attempting to book future dates for me to help them out with their business.

In every case, I could see where the offending person could use a rebalancing of their lives, in such a way as to make feeding the body, mind and spirit more important than pushing to make that extra four hours of work that day.

I get it, we must make hay while the sun shines. The problem is that many in the industry lose perspective, and instead of enjoying their spare time, they spend it all trying to fill time with more clients, or bashing those who don’t subscribe to their particular electrolysis religion.

As someone I used to know would say, “We all think we are hot shots!” I would just add that some of us think we are the only ones to invent the wheel, and others invest all our non working hours trying to steal someone’s fire, or thunder.
