Probes 101

However, keep in mind you’re talking to do-it-yourselfers. They have a long way to go before the finer points of needle choice are the determining factor in their treatment efficacy.

HOW TRUE … HOW TRUE!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I received my #3 Sterex one-piece probes as well as the #3 and #4 Precision two-piece probes. I liked the Precision ones better. They were much softer and easier to insert than the Sterex.

I found the Sterex not as sharp as the Ballet, but i still hurt myself a couple of times not making the correct insertion [image]http://www.cs.drexel.edu/~ti24/electrolysis/smilies/nurse.jpg[/image], where as the Precision needle just slides in and bends with the follicle. I like that.

I also bought #7 tweezers and I LOVE THEM… i love the shape and it’s perfect for me to use. i know the most popular ones are the H type, but i just love these. They are LONG though… I still stab myself with them by accident when I’m holding them and doing something else [image]http://www.cs.drexel.edu/~ti24/electrolysis/smilies/ANIMATED/banghead.gif[/image] I have to get used to their size.

So over all, I’m happy with my purchase but i wish that i did not order as many one piece needles b/c i don’t really like them, but I figure over the years to come they’ll be used up.

I think I’m going to buy the Daisy needleholder by Uniprobe since it suppose to accomodate any type of needle and epilator machine. And I’m gonna get samples from Precision, Uniprobe, and Ballet.

I think I’m going to get two-pieces, thanks for the tip Ivelina.

If you are getting free samples and you have never tried the one piece you should also get a couple of different brands one piece b/c i think it’s a personal preference thing. so you should really try it. if you would like me to, since i have about a thousand more than i need, i can send you one.

what shaft sizes are ballet gold K shank tapered needles (one-piece) available? the tapered type is the one with a sharp tip (like a sewing needles)?

Ballet makes both F and K shank probes in sizes 2 - 6.

the tapered type is the one with a sharp tip (like a sewing needles)?

Whether the needle is tapered has nothing to do with how sharp the tip is.

The taper refers to how gradually the shank narrows down to the tip of the needle. The tapered needle does so more gradually. This has two effects: One is to make the needle less susceptible to bending. The other effect is to reduce RF (heat) in the upper part of the follicle if you insert the needle far enough so the taper goes in the follicle.

i am asking because in that site:
http://www.instantron.com/files/27.html
it says that: “T” tapered needle offered by ballet is “A tapered needle with a shank size of .02 and a strongly tapered shaft. Offered in the following lengths, and in Small and Medium Widths”

while for all other types with K and F shank, according to the same site, sizes 2-6 are available. from that i assume that not all sizes are available for tapered needles? it is a little confusing.

As a home user, you will do best with a one piece ballet gold size 3. If you do a two piece, you will spend 20 to 30 seconds trying to make the insertion because the thing will bend on you. You will also be replaceing bent up probes frequently during a long session.

Don’t bother with tapered, bulbous or any other kind of probes that you won’t be able to get the most out of.
