Post Treatment Questions

I had laser hair treatment a few months ago. I can not remember the type of laser, but the setting was at 14 J. Following the treatment, I experienced hair loss at the treated area. Does this mean that the treatment was effective? Much of the hair has grown back, but there was no noticeable change in hair density or follicle thickness.

Another question, I am a male and I was thinking about having the hair on my pubic region treated. The skin there is particularly sensitive. Would treating this area have more risk than any other area of my body?

  • Shedding is a good sign, but that doesn’t mean the hair was damaged permanently. To guarantee that, you need to treat at highest settings your skin can handle safely

  • 14J is not enough to know the setting. We need to know the spot size and pulse width as well as the type of the machine (Alex, diode, Yag). Can you call the clinic and ask for these things?

  • The hair is not “back”. You’re seeing new hair from the next cycle of growth. Hair grows in cycles, which is why multiple treatments are needed. It sounds like you’re ready for your next treatment now (spacing is normally 2-3 months apart). However, I would make sure you’re being treated at good settings when you go.

  • No, there isn’t any more risk. Laser only cares about the color of the skin and the coarseness of the hair.

I found out the settings for the laser treatment I received. The machine was an Orion harmony, 650 wave length, 15J, 30ms duration (I guess pulse length). Are these settings high enough to produce results?

No idea about settings but that is an IPL not a laser.

And… it is general consensus that true laser’s work better for permanent hair reduction than IPL light-based systems.

This is an IPL, not a laser, as mentioned. It’s one of the better IPLs out there, but still an IPL.

I’m not familiar with IPL settings.
