Pock marks

Hello all,

This is my first post here, though I’ve looked through other posts on the site over the last few months.

I started electrolysis on my chin and upper lip in January 2014 (weekly 10 minute sessions) and have had great results. I am now down to fortnightly 10 minute sessions, and even then, I’m not ashamed to be seen in public just before each session. Overall, I’m thrilled that I started out on this, and it’s improved my confidence and my life.

Since I’ve reduced the number of sessions I have, I’m able to see my skin much better as the skin has a chance to completely heal between each session. What I’ve now noticed is that all of my chin area has pock marks - as if I’ve had reasonably bad acne in earlier years.

I’d thought these would clear up, but I’ve seen no improvement in the last 3 1/2 months. Does anyone know if this is normal, and if I just need to wait longer for a full return to normal skin texture?

If it’s permanent, I guess I’m still in a better position than when I had daily stubble problems(!)

Thanks for reading

I’ll save the others the effort of saying that without a picture, no one will be able to tell you very much.

I take BEFORE PICTURES of all my clients. Once the hair is gone, they tend to notice the skin, not the hair anymore. They use their 10x magnification mirrors and then they really freak out about how imperfect their skin looks. Large pores and tiny wrinkles is what we usually hear about all the time.

Here are some before pictures on clients WHO NEVER HAD ELECTROLYSIS.

So, what do you think these ladies will focus on once the hair is removed permanently? They already have skin imperfections and those imperfections will still be there after the hair is gone.

I’m not saying this is the case with you. I’m just offering you some information that may help you decipher what is true and what is not true. Do you have quality before pictures? Can you submit pictures of what you look like now?

Thanks for the replies. I don’t have any ‘before’ pictures, but I’m attaching one from this morning here.

You can see the pitting on my chin area, which wasn’t there before treatment.

It’s not a huge deal to me - like I said, I prefer this to the stubble that I was previously fighting with!! I’m just curious really as to whether it will even out over time. I’m currently using bio oil on a night.

Thanks

Give it about a year to 18 months and see if it evens out. If it doesn’t, then you will have to consult a dermatologist. You may have to do a resurfacing procedure?

Tell me, were your treatments overly aggressive? Large scabs that lasted for over a week? Anything other healing issues?

Oh, and thank you for the picture!

Please everybody, take those BEFORE PICTURES.

Hi Dee,

Thanks for getting back to me on this. No, I didn’t think that my treatments were very aggressive. I have had some scabbing along the way, but nothing that lasted more than 5 days at the most (and that would have been rare).

I’ll take your advice and leave it for the time-being. Perhaps I’ll be lucky and it will clear in time. And if not, I’ll look into seeing someone about resurfacing.

Thanks again!!

You are very welcome.

Very strange to have marks like these?

It’s hard to know all the details and happenings over an Internet discussion. I was also wondering what the rest of the skin looks like on your face where no treatment was done. Please don’t make the effort to take more pictures though. It’s okay. Let’s hope that your skin looks better down the road.

I’m stealing your thread here…

This is in reference to Dee’s second photo here, taken 2/21/2011.

I have a client whose skin discoloration and hair problem were much like this photo. I mentioned the skin discoloration (melasma - upper lip and above her eyebrows) to her in the beginning and we talked about the causes. (Birth control or hormones and artificial sweeteners are possibilities.) She’s not been concerned about it. It’s been a couple of years since I thought her upper lip was completed. (She’s moved on to other areas.) She’s gained a bunch of weight this winter and as a result or coincidentally she has more melasma AND she has more hair growth on her upper lip. (Longer than the original.) If she hadn’t completed her underarms, if I had worked way above her eyebrows - she might have thought one or both of the following: Treatments don’t work and treatments caused the pigmentation.

So true, Barbara.

The second picture from 2-21-11, shows hyperpigmentation from either birth control pills? or the frequent use of Nair to temporarily remove hair over the years? She used both products.

We see all kinds of skin problems BEFORE WE MAKE THAT FIRST INSERTION.
It is always wise to document with pictures for both the client and the electrologist.
