Please advice - Can electrolysis cause this!!?

While been getting electrolysis done on my sideburn area for about past 2 and half years now. I also decided to get my eyebrows permanantly done with electrolysis. Needless to say i go for maintenance cleareance session every 4-5 weeks now.
Last session she did about 2 hairs on each brow and said i was done for that area.

Ok the problem is in photos i been noticing my left eye appearing to be smaller then my right eye. The first time i noticed was 2 months ago…i thought maybe it was the photo…but i been really checking in the mirror for the past week or so and taken lots of photos since then to see the problem and yes the left eye appears to be smaller then right. I am only 24 so its not like its an aging related problem. But I am soo worried now could electrolysis have caused this? Could it have damaged a nerve in the eye area to have caused this? My eyelids look assymetrical and the left eye appears to be smaller then the right. Somewhat that left eye area looks lopsided  I attached a pic in the link.

Please advice? You experts out there James anyone?

I had always beeen worried about getting electrolysis done in the eye brow area even told her to stop more then several months ago…i used the excuse it was too painful and it worse…needless to say my vision has even gone bad a lil so i was worried a while back…and she said i will turn down the setting so its not as painful…I am not attributing my vision problem to electrolysis…but i cant get the niggling doubt of the smaller eye problem out my head now

anyway i have decided to tell her to STOP FOR GOOD all eyebrow electrolysis session! Till this problem is sorted out.

Any advice?

Well, to know for sure, we would need to see pics of your eyes from a while back, say before treatment started.

But eyes are rarely ever symmetrical. It’s just not noticed, unless they are vastly different. And though I am older than you, I have noticed one eye stays more closed than the other one. Muscles react differently, and can change in strength or response over time. I’m not saying that electro CAN’T make the change you noticed (I’ll let the pros answer you on that), but I can tell you that there are many things that can cause your condition that are unrelated to electro.

Bell’s Palsy is one thing, and if you ever had a mild case, it could have caused it. But typically with BP, you know you have it, if there is a noticable difference. Having said that, however, I had two instances of BP and the first time it happened, the doc had no idea what it was. I figured it out myself, and when I told him, he looked it up and verified they symptoms.

As for the pic, I see no real issue with it. I have seen other women who have more assymetry than you, and it is barely noticeable.

Rest assured, electrolysis did not, and cannot cause this.

I would continue with your electrolysis treatments. There’s nothing to sort out here. Electrolysis cannot cause asymetrical eyes. I would like to see several before pictures of your eyes just for the heck of it. Most peoples eyes do not match perfectly.

I am not saying electrolysis can cause assymetrical eyes…but i am wondering if perhaps it can cause nerve damage? Cause there are alot of nerves and blood flowing near the eye area. And doesnt electrolysis kill hairs by stopping bloood flow to the hair root? Thats why im confused. And if a nerve got damaged then that can cause a droopy eyelid somewhat.

Thanks for clarifying eyes are rarely ever symmetrical. You are right in that…i looked up more photos and eyes are not a perfect symmetrical shape but this is hardly noticeable compared to now. When i compare that to compare above pic the difference is noticeable. Also to provide an example…my previous photos hardly noticeable that my eyes are not in perfect symmetry. But now i see it clearly one eye is more closed then other in photos.

I will get the old pics and post it above for comparison

Electrolysis destroys the hair follicle either by heat, a chemical reaction, or a combination of the two. And the small current, as well as quick/low amounts of heat, would do no nerve damage.

Now, I have read details on here where follicles were damaged by improper techniques (or people trying to remove hair themselves), but you would SEE that damage… splotches of red, scabs, slow-to-heal areas, etc.

I suspect this pic simply emphasizes your “imperfection” more than others have, or that you simply paid it more attention. But as I said, you are actually very normal in having this condition… we all have it to some degree.

There is a tiny bundle of nerves that surround each hair follicle. That is why a person FEELS the sensation of heat or chemical destruction that is needed while performing electrolysis. Major nerves that control various parts of the body are located much deeper than the bottom of a hair follicle. When we disrupt hair growing tissue in order to bring you permanent hair removal, we are not involving and can’t even come close to involving any major structures that can cause other problems.

It’s like comparing catching pneumonia because electrolysis was performed on one’s chest. If your eyelid is drooping, there could be a myriad of reasons for this that only a doctor can analyze and diagnose. I have never read about or experienced this in my practice and I do a lot of eyebrow work.

With that said, can you describe your electrolysis experience? Blend? Thermolysis? Healing? Anything else?

Dee

Ok thanks for clarifying that f6hawk and dfahey. Im feels good to eliminate electrolysis as a possible cause.

my electrolysis experiences are have been documented in my thread. The link as follows. I guess it also neeeds an update too.
