pih from threading- will lhr help

Hi

I have been threading my upper lip for a long time now and several months back after a holiday I.noticed it was getting darker

I saw a derm and was advised its from threading, she advised diode hair removal to reduce the amount of time I remove the hair, she said the pigmentation would go away eventually after I stop traumatising the area

I have previously tried ipl, made skin dark. Electrolysis, my skin is too sensitive and it hypopigmented on the test area

I enquired about diode but locally they have nd yag laser and was told this is safer to use on darker skin

I am Asian, fair skin but my hair on upper lip is only thick on sides of mouth, other areas are thinner

My major concern is that lhr works on light skin dark hair, my upper lip is darker than the rest of my face so will the laser make the pigmentation worse as it will pick up the melanin in my skin?

I really want to get rid of the hair as it makes the area look darker

I believe the pih on my upper lip is dermal as it is grey looking

I have melasma on my face but this is definitely a brown colour, just to confirm that its not melasma on upper lip

I would really appreciate some advice as I’m so torn about what to do?

Thanks x

Electrolysis may be a good option if it’s such a small area.

Thanks Emily but I tried this a long time ago and it dint suit my skin

Depending on how long ago it was you might find someone who does suit - I went from blend method to a practitioner using an apilus platinum machine and it made a huge difference

agreed that different practitioner and or different machine can make a huge difference. I’ve notivced that the silouette tone VMC and some of the higher end apilus machines make a wold of difference when treating sensative skin. I’m not clear on the reasoning, but it is something I have noted to be so

NdYAG will not make your upper lip darker. It will help. For finer hair, they need to use a low pulse width with high energy. Also, try elure on your upper lip

Thanks for your responses

Romeo I am in the UK so no access to elure, shame :frowning:

So lhr will get rid of fine hair too? The lhr machine the clinic has is cynosure

I might have to try this as the more I thread the worse its getting

It’s heartbreaking, I hate it so much

I would plan on electrolysis for most fine hair.
