Pigmentation and laser hair removal

Hi I am away to have laser hair treatment but I am worried about looking worse than before since I have pigmentation from years of plucking my face. I am also mixed race so I am extra concerned about scarring since hearing so many horror stories about dark skinned people having treatment. Are there any users on here with dark skin who have had success with LHR?

If you are a female, I believe some advice you will get is to NOT have laser on your face. I don’t know how thick or coarse the concerned hair is but electrolysis is probably a better way to go.

At my consultation the nurse didnt say that I couldnt have it, she just told me that they would test the laser on a hidden area first. I will ask her about electrolysis though. Thanks.

Hi Dixie90,

I had planned on having laser treatment on my face when I began. I am black with skin type IV, somewhat medium tan complexion. I have dark marks from trauma of plucking the excess hair on my face.

Having researched and read threads on this site it seems that laser treatment on the female face may cause dormant follicles to produce hair - laser induced growth - or the fine vellus hair may darken and grow longer. The chin, lip and side burns are areas where this may occur.

I am now having electrolysis as the chance of stimulating further hair growth concerned me.
