Pigment lightening serum

So I guess the dark marks that I have mentioned in a previous post are from my pigmentation…after electrolysis the skin gets red (sort of like a sun burn), then later it turns to a really dark brown.
Josefa posted pictures of somebody who had the pigmentation from plucking before starting electrolysis and it went away after electrolysis. I’m having the opposite effect…when I plucked I never had the problems, but now I do and it’s really embarrassing. I feel bad for my husband. He only takes 20 mins to get ready everyday… it used to be like that for me… now it’s at least 2 hours. Yuck!

Anyway, I was wondering if anybody could recommend a pigment lightening cream. I have tried homemade methods and they seemed to help, but the ingredients spoil quickly. I spent so much time in the store today looking around for something, and they only had a few things to choose from. Amazon has a ton of options. The reviews are helpful, but I doubt many of the posters are using it after electrolysis. I also want to make sure that anything I use wont stimulate hair growth or anything like that.

Thanks!!! I love this site, you guys are all so helpful!

I think it’s time to update the thread of the temporary side effects post-electrolysis. Please take a look.

From what I have read here, hyperpigmentation from electrolysis tends to very superficial and fades on its own in 3-12 months.

If you’re in no mood to wait, you can try glycolic acid, arbutin, azelaic acid, retinoids(tretinoin and adapalene), Vitamin C(ascorbic acid), etc.

I suggest you just increase your Vitamin C intake and use glycolic acid 6-12%.

I would not use any creams.

This will just take time to fade. If you are regularly having electrolysis, then you will get new PIH marks before the old ones fade.

Please see the last page in my signature of my sister’s diary. The photos are of my neck after some intense work. I’d say it took about 2 months for the bulk of the marks to fade. And another 2 marks for the rest to disappear. It’s now 6.5 months later and I have no signs of treatment, the skin is perfect.

I just applied rosehip seed oil at least once, if not twice a day to my face and neck.

In the periods between treatments (if they are sufficiently long enough) you can do some peels. Lactic Acid 30 or 50% is milder than Glycolic of the same concentrations. You can start with this but do do some research to find out how to do the peels appropriately (how long, how often, how to neutralise, how to care of the skin afterwards, wearing high number spf). Even the peels won’t fade the pigmentation overnight but it does help speed up the process.

My sister has acne pigmentation marks for which is she now using a 15% GLA night cream a few times a week. It is working.

Thank you! I guess I thought the pigmentation problem would be permanent. I didn’t have any problems at all for at least a year of electrolysis, it’s just the last few months it’s been a big problem. I checked out stopit’s page and that is a nice difference! I will check out the temporary side effects page now. Thanks again!

topical ascorbic acid (10-20%) combined with 10-15% AHA (glycolic preferably, but lactic is ok too)

dissolve those two in propylene glycol, no water. This will keep the vitamin C from spoiling and the PG also helps the acids penetrate the skin.

take that mixture and blend with a normal moisturizer (I use CeraVe) to make it thicker and easier to apply.

you can buy all the ingredients from sites like lotioncrafter, ingredientstodiefor.com, makingcosmetics.com, etc…

This will fade hyperpigmentation quickly (weeks instead of months) and also inhibit scarring as vitamin C boosts collagen synthesis.

I use this to fade my freckles and hyperpigmented spots =)

How soon after your appointment did you notice the pigmentation? Did it get worse with time? I had a 30 minute treatment on the peachfuzz on my upper lip and believe I was very overtreated. It was my first time and my skin reacted horribly with blisters and scabbing. It has been 3 weeks
and the visible wounds have healed but now I am noticing very deep darkening in the area and still feel a constant tingling/tightening/burning type sensation. I am very nervous that this will be permanent or even get worse! Any advice/ information/ answers would be appreciated. I need honesty!

I’m not really sure how long it showed up for me. I have been getting it done since Dec 2010, and there have only ever been a few hairs on my lip at a time, but after almost every treatment my the area swells up and gets red. There have been a few times that it didn’t swell at all. I’m not sure why the difference/ The settings are always on the same thing.
The pigmentation problems started about maybe two or three months ago. So for a whole year of getting this done, I never had any problems (other than the immediate side effects)… I don’t know why it just started happening.

Reading through the temporary side effect thread, Josefa said that the pigmentation problem always goes away, which is reassuring… but in the meantime it REALLY sucks. Makeup does not hide this. I look like I have a mustache all the time and there is nothing I can do. I am thinking the few hairs being removed there aren’t worth the embarrassment. I know the hairs will add up over time, but I don’t even want to leave my house… and I’m a social person ;(

Yes I am really really regretting being so vain! I am only 24 and incredibly social and I have barely left the house in 3 weeks. My skin responded just terribly! Nothing is covering the color- please let me know if you find anything that helps.

Do you have any pictures? I will try a get a good one and see if we’ve got the same problem.

I would not worry. Hyperpigmentation will resolve it is not permanent. Keep out of the sun, dont keep touching/rubbing or irritating the area. Let your body heal itself. If you are uncomfortable maybe apply a coverup with a sunblock until it fades.

Sure, I will take one in just a few days. I just had electrolysis so it wont look like it usually does. Message me and I can give you a few things that I have done that seemed to help a little bit.
