Photos after treatment - is this ok?

Hi, I saw there are lots of people here who have a large experience both in treating and in being treated using elecrolysis and I decided to ask for your help. I went to an electrolyst in my area, I live in a small country so there aren’t many people who do it. I went to have some hairs on the chin treated and I was considering having my upper lip treated. After the first and only treatment on my chin, in November, it was very swallen for about 4 days and I felt it strange for about a week or so, it felt as if my skin was “thicker” if you know what I mean, although the swelling wasn’t visible any more. The hairs didn’t show up for four months, till about March, and it looked darkish and kind of strange. I thought she might have overtreated it since there were about 10-15 hairs with variable darkness, but rather close to each other, but I am not sure. This month I decided to try and see how my skin would react to having a few hairs on my belly treated, I went there last week but it still feels awkward and looks awkward. I attach the photos, I will be very grateful to hear your opinion

Betty those photos are superb! I have never seen photos of such close up and high quality posted by any consumer here to date, can I ask what type of photographic equipment you used? It looks like it might be a medical microscope of some kind?

The varying hair color is due to differing stages of hair growth. Some of the hairs are in telogen, catogen and anogen. Also I’d be willing to wager a gues syou are somewhat older ( 40’s?) and are starting to see the effects of the deactivation of the pigment generating cell ( which produce melanin ) ,that is to say, you are likely greying somewhat
The skin surrounding, looks like there is some hyperpigmentation present. Nothing to panic over, as it will fade over time.4 months is about right time frame wise to see regrowth. Assuming this isnt representative of ALL the hair treated , and a significant portion did not return, then depending on modality it might not be horrible results.

The belly shots look a little intense on the reaction, but not completely horrible. It should heal fine, but it’s more significant scabbing than I like to see.

Recently, I had a client ,where the skin “volcano’ed”( credit for this reference goes to my partner Veronica) up the hair shaft just as your does. It makes insertions more difficult, but is still treatable. It’s incredible to get such a good visiual of this, may I use your close up pictures in reference materials?

Seana

Seana, thank you for your early reply, These are photos of how my chin looks now, it is much better, almost normal now, but till last month it was rather dark and beforehand it looked just like my belly photo. At the time I had it treated it was very swallen, red and had some whiteish things at a couple of places. I am in my mid 20s, with pale skin and very dark hair, rather thick hairs.

What worries me is that I am still considering my upper lip treated, but I can’t imagine walking around with my upper lip as sore and bad looking as my chin was. I was wondering whether my skin is not reacting like it is supposed to, or whether the settings of the machine are too strong or the treatment time is too long. I was considering going to another electrolyst but for the lack of any better currently, I decided to try again with her and form an opinion on what to do. When I went to her for my belly I asked her to put the “intensity” setting at the lowest possible but she said she hadn’t treated anyone at this setting and it wouldn’t work, so she chose “intensity” of 2 from 6 available for needle. I think my belly feels and looks as if I have ‘mini-wounds’ thus I am wondering what to do, look for another electolyst, another type of machine or give up electrolysis and try perhaps some kind of laser treatment.

P.S. feel free to use the photos for your materials, I have used a 50x magnification usb microscope. Thanks for the term “volcanoeing”, it sounds so right. Could you let me know how I could deal with it?

treatment on the body is not the same as treatment on the face. It should not react that way. If your chin looked like the belly does now, IE large scabs and lots of swellin I would not consider thaving the upper lip treated by the same practitioner. Smallish scabs about the size of pinhead are acceptable if they are rare, but if this is consistently happening it indicates overtreatment. Upper lip is particularly prone to overtreatment. I have to wonder if these are the results if her machine is not calibrated correctly. You should probably look elsewhere before having the upper lip done.

Seana, thank you for your reply, I also read another topic on a similar subject and I felt like I had asked the question myself, the case is so similar - all the symptoms, the way the electrolyst is trying to convince me it’s all right, and me deciding to try once again because it’s hard to find another electolyst in the area. http://www.hairtell.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/121661/1.html I tried not to overreact but having read your reply there I am absolutely convinced that I have to try and find another practicioner.

I measured the largest scabs with a ruler (imagine that), and it turned out my largest are of about 1,5mm in diameter, having in mind she’s using a needle of about 0.2mm. Thank you once again.

I did have a definite feeling of deju vu when replying to those two posts, yours and hers.

1.5 mm is a bit largish. My advice is the same.
