Permanent scalp hair removal

Hi all.

After searching the web (including HairFacts and HairTell) for information regarding permanent scalp hair removal, I came across the following (rather old) post on the issue of waxing your scalp hair.

Has anyone ever attempted the above? Is electrolysis (or laser/IPL for that matter) applicable for scalp hair removal, or am I stuck shaving/cutting my hair for now?

I started shaving my head when I joined the swim team in high school and continued doing so for some time after I left the Army. I’m currently using a pair of electric clippers to cut my scalp hair and after cutting my hair short pretty much my entire adult life I’m tired of wearing out razorblades. For once in my life time and money is on my side to such an extent that I’m seriously considering having my scalp hair permanently removed.

I’d love to hear any and all thoughts on the issue and especially personal experiences, if any.

Thanks in advance,
Martin

That would be a tremendous task.

You are crazy. Bald people must hate you. But, If it makes you happy to not have hair on your head, it can’t be that bad.

Electrolysis can remove any hair from anywhere. You would have to get a couple consults and sample treatments to understand better what it feels like and how much hair can be removed from an area.

As a practicing electrologist, one man has made this request of me. He backed out when he discovered that it would take more than a month to achieve this lofty goal. I’d have to have the speed of The Roadrunner to get about “1,000,000” hairs in one month, and that would be the just the FIRST clearance.

I assume other modalities like LASER and an IPL can do it as well, but electrolysis is a definite for 100% permanent removal. Our LASER experts will have to address that issue.

I get a sense that there are not too many men that will post here about their permanent hair removal experience with scalp hair. I’m all ears if they do.

Figure out how to spike your body’s DHT level. Much cheaper and definitely permanent.

Sorry, not much help but I could not help myself.

Hehe, guess I’ll have to take the replies so far as a “no”, then.

That’s fine, though. I really wasn’t expecting much. Not exactly a huge customer base for this sort of thing I imagine.

Anyway, now that that’s established, anyone know of a reasonable alternative to shaving your head? I know it’s not exactly a hassle (relatively speaking, of course, the 4-5 minutes I spend shaving my head is nothing compared to the 45-60 minutes my gf spends doing her hair…) but I’d like to explore my options in any case.

I’m hoping I don’t overstep any boundaries for asking about alternatives to permanent hair removal in the “Professional electrolysis” thread, but here goes:

Anyone using methods other than shaving their heads? I guess I’m thinking mostly about depilatories and similar temporary hair removal products, even hair growth inhibitors (assuming any of them even work…).

Thanks again,
Martin.

Well Martin, don’t consider using a creme, like Veet or Nair, or a powder. Getting a dipilitory creme in your eyes would be a serious health situation that could permanently effect your vision. Stick with shaving, simple but safe. Do you have one of those new electrics? Like a Braun Activators? That’s what a buddy of mine does. He carries it with him and will shave his head while talking to people.

For what it’s worth, I’m following this thread with interest in that going with the dome is starting to seem a good thing. I’m going with a #1 on the sides and a #2 on top, even that’s bothering me.

So it’s not a problem using an electric razor like the Braun Activator on your scalp? I always thought you’d wear them out in no time.

My brother actually has that exact model so I’m going to ask him if I can take a look at it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Also, what do you mean by “a #1 on the sides and a #2 on top”? Didn’t quite catch that one.

Martin

I assume he means #1 and #2 clipper guards.

there is one person on the cosmetic enhancements forum who has had several laser treatments on his head. you might want to search him out and PM to get updated info on his progress.
