Peashooter DIY diode laser - anybody tried it? Scam?

These Chinese devices are available on eBay. They claim it is a 755 and 808 nm diode laser device with sapphire cooling technology capable of output fluence up to 30 J/cm2. Price is only $489 USD + $50 shipping from China.

They say it uses the same laser bar as Alma. Those are expensive machines so I’m a tad skeptical.

I saw a Pinterest post on it saying these devices recently got FDA approval but I don’t know how true that is.

Has anybody heard anything about these machines or tried one? Is it really a laser or just an IPL unscrupulously/dishonestly marketed as a diode laser? I note the device looks pretty small so it can’t have a very large power supply. Can a device that small possibly power a diode laser that’s got enough jam to permanently kill hair follicles?

I have a strong opinion about such devices, but I’m feeling charitable today and curious what others have to say so I’m going to shut up until they do!

Oh, don’t hold back @Iluv2zap, please give your honest opinion. I would like to hear what you have to say.

It would be great if these inexpensive laser devices could actually do what the manufacturers say they do but I’m a little skeptical about them having enough power to deliver the energy required to destroy hair follicles down beneath the skin. When you see the size of professional machines which I believe have pretty sizeable and beefy power supplies in the base station, it’s a little hard to imagine one of these small, portable DIY lasers that contain the power supply in the gun could have anywhere near the power required to do the same job with such comparatively small power supplies.

I was hoping that someone has already tried one of these DIY diode lasers and could share what there experience with them was like.

Nope I’m going to give you just a teaser. Because I really want to see what some of the other professionals come up with.
But let me start you down a path to think on. I spent more than the value of any of those machines, just on electrolysis probes for the next couple months. My electrolysis machine was a little over $12000 cdn and currently retails for over $18000 CDN. A laser used in a esthetics office, retails for at least $50000 .Dont you think, if any laser handheld device was successful in killing hair, that you wouldnt see them popping up in every beauty shop in your area? Wouldnt that be a huge boon to their business? Treat 6 or so patients for “laser” and have the machine paid for then live off the gravy? How come you arent seeing that?
