PCOS Dilemma

Hello all,

Well I was told today that I have PCOS and although I am very confused and overwhelmed by what it all means, I am relieved that all of the mad problems that I’ve had over the past couple of years are attributable to something and that I am not bonkers. I can’t explain how glad I am to finally be taken seriously by my doctor and family.

That aside, my problem is this: I have been offered free laser treatment by my doctor on my face. The lasers being offered are the alex and the nd:yag (I have not been seen by the dermatologist yet but I know that I am skin type IV and that I will therefore be offered yag) but I have already had 12 treatments of nd:yag over a year ago (I can’t believe how much I paid for it, but at that time my doctor dismissed my hair problem as heredity because of my ethnic background so I jumped into it without researching because I was so desperate). The results were not so good - I did end up with induced growth, as I now sadly know is common in this area for women.

Anyhow, I started electrolysis (blend and thermolysis) last month but because of my ultra sensitive skin, for all the pre and post care, I am ending up with scars so I’m not really satisfied with how it’s going. So now I’m wavering, wondering whether I should just go with the free laser despite my previous results or if that would be a big mistake. I did ask my doctor if I could be given free electrolysis instead but this was rejected outright.

So what do you guys think I should do? I do have many good pictures of my skin if anyone wants to see them, I don’t really know how to upload them online etc, but I’d be happy to email them to anyone who might like to see and kindly offer me their thoughts…

Glad you finally received a diagnosis. You may want to check out the PCOS support sites like as www.soulcysters.net. Are they putting you on any medication to control future growth?

Pictures would really help. It’d be helpful to see how dark your skin is and how coarse the hair is. You can upload to www.photobucket.com and post the HTML tag they provide here in the thread.

Thanks for that - I had no idea uploading images would be that easy

I’ve got an appointment later on in the week to discuss medication etc, as my doctor didn’t have time today…so I look forward to that. Meanwhile, now that I have mastered photobucket haha here are the html tags you were talking about:

I hope that those ^ work, and by the way, these photos have been taken after approx. 6 scattered (i.e. no full discernable clearance) treatments and those scabs/scars are the result of electrolysis…

Thanks in advance for your help (is that presumptive lol?)

sorry, those pictures are actually crapper than I thought :frowning:

Your hair is too fine for laser, unless all the coarse hairs are gone in these pics?

I would sample more electrologists. It looks like you’re getting a bunch of scabbing, and you may find electrologists who can help avoid them if they have a good machine and are very experienced. Are you picking on the scabs? Are you using aftercare on your skin after the treatments?

What machine and electrolysis method is being used on you now? How many electrologists did you check out before seeing this one? did you look through electrologist recommendations for London on the forum?
