Patchy Results After Multiple Laser Hair Removal Sessions

Hello

I’ve been undergoing laser hair removal for several months now, but I’m noticing uneven results. Some areas are becoming significantly thinner, while others still have noticeable hair growth. I expected some reduction, but the patchiness makes me wonder if something is off with the treatment. Has anyone else experienced this?

I’ve been consistent with my sessions, following the recommended schedule, and my skin and hair type were deemed suitable for laser by the clinic. :upside_down_face: However, certain spots don’t seem to respond as well, even though they receive the same treatment. Could it be an issue with the laser settings, hair growth cycles, or something else? Checked Laser hair removal - Hairtell hair removal forum by Andrea James Power Apps Training guide related to this and found it quite informative.

I’d appreciate any advice from those who have been through the process. Should I request an adjustment in settings, or is this normal?

Thank you !!! :slightly_smiling_face:

Laser hair removal is unpredictable. Usually patchiness is caused by areas that were unintentionally missed during a treatment. If you are realistic about expectations you must embrace the following: laser is not (and never will be) 100% effective. Laser hair removal IS permanent hair reduction (keyword), NOT permanent hair removal. At some point efficacy falls off and does not improve with additional treatments.

To minimise unintentionally missed patches, therapists must be very thorough and this takes time even when super powerful LHR machines with high output powers are used. Thus this takes time, not a quick procedure.
Clients achieve greater permanent hair reduction when their initial, virgin hair is still super coarse, dense & dark. LHR become less effective and fails after successive treatment sessions.
That is the reason why it is very important to find the right therapists with right machines/devices right from the start.

Hi dereektheleer,

What you’re describing—patchy results after multiple laser sessions—is something many people go through, and it’s usually not a sign that the treatment isn’t working, but rather a reflection of how laser interacts with hair growth cycles and post-treatment behavior.

Laser hair removal targets follicles in the anagen (active) phase, which means different areas might respond at different rates simply due to the natural growth cycle of the hair. It’s also common to see more reduction in certain zones where hair is denser or darker, while lighter or finer hairs might take longer to respond—even under identical treatment conditions.

Another factor that often influences results is how the skin and treated areas are managed between sessions. For example, exfoliation timing, sun exposure, and even how shedding is handled after each session can all subtly affect outcomes. If the skin isn’t exfoliated at the right time or if pores stay blocked post-session, hair that should have shed may appear as if it wasn’t treated.

Some of these nuances are discussed in resources like epilation world, where aftercare practices and result variations are explained without oversimplifying the process. While technique and device settings do matter, client aftercare plays a bigger role than many expect.

You’re definitely not alone in experiencing uneven progress. With continued sessions, proper spacing, and attention to maintenance, most users see these patches fill in and even out. Patience and consistency are key.
