I just got back from a consultation at a laser hair removal center and the tech said that i would need about 4 sessions to thin out my chest hair (dense black hair, fair skin). When i asked her about anyone experiencing patchy regrowth she said that she had never experienced it before with her clients. I was wondering if anyone on here had experienced patchy regrowth or could provide me with some pictures of the progress on their chests after each session of laser hair removal.
You shouldn’t have patchy regrowth. Patchy growth is caused by the technician missing spots during the treatment, so not all hair is treated. You would know if this is happening though because 2-3 weeks after treatment, all the hair should fall out. If you notice an area where it hasn’t, then they probably missed it and should touch it up for free.
Patchiness is a result of not overlapping properly or using low settings, or a combination of both. You don’t mention the laser being used, or settings, or your skin type, which means you probably need to do more research and check out a few clinics to compare things.
Please read our FAQs.
Patchiness on chest hair is not mentioned nearly as often than for the male face. Use the search tool (for PATCHY) on this forum and read more here - there is a vast collection of info at HAIRTELL over many years so read on…
Males face is mentioned being patchy more often because the hair is dense and very deep with a lot of lasers unable to reach it. When I’ve been treated with the alexandrite on my full face, everywhere shed except upper lip and chin because those areas are so deep so I had to use the yag. Had I not had the area redone with the yag then I’d have patchy results for sure. Other areas of the body though aren’t as big of a deal as the hair is more even.
In most areas, there would also be fewer hairs per square centimeter, thus limiting the shadow effect that lessens the amount of energy each hair can absorb.
