I can not wait for your assessment Michael and Dee, this could lead to a new book!!! How odd of this “school of paranoia”, they should have been honoured to help you.
Hi Mr laurier at present time I don’t consider myself qualified enough to have a valid opinion on the merits or otherwise of one particular needle over another. I don’t doubt for a minute that it doesn’t warrant the praise that it is getting in this thread. It’s a pity that your hand made approach isn’t adopted by more people in the the world in general, it might go some way towards reducing all the recycling we are now having to do
Dee I’d be really interested to see some footage of you working, is there any chance that might be a possibility?
Dee it’s on my mind and I’m feeling compelled to say it.
Considering your client was just starting beard removal didn’t she look a little out of sink with just her upper lip hair missing?
New Book
Indeed, I have two partially finished books. I’m just starting a new thread where I encourage others to write a book or a paper. The new “publishing” instruments allow almost anyone to do this now. Years ago, when I published my first book, the cost up-front was $27,000 for 5,000 books (done on a massive Heidelberg Press). I had to store them and hope I could sell them all. (I did.) Now with “print on demand” techniques, I can do only 50 books at a time. It’s wonderful! Furthermore, as we move toward “E-books” the market will become even more democratic.
I will put something together for all of you, because several of you DO have a book in you and certainly have something to say! Doing a paper or book is far more satisfying that posting on line and seeing your ideas vanish in a couple days. Of course, I intend to offer my help to any of you. All of us are looking for a “Renaissance in electrology.” I believe all the elements ARE there!
If these projects materialize, our profession is to be congratulated. Michael, you should never have to stop writing. Those who have had the fortune to read your texts are addicted and we need a daily dose.
I agree with Christine, any school should be pleased to have among its students, none other than Michael Bono, WOW. If I were one of the teachers in those schools, my only dilemma would be, should I charge or pay for training this “student”?
Yes Follizap, we can do 2 hours in an upper lip with minimal reaction and at the same time get the best possible results. The key is to take advantage offered by these hairs. Hairs of Stoppit’s sister was a virgin hair, thin and most of them in an advanced stage. The hairs density was high, but the roots were shallow, so the target area was minimal.
If we add to all this that has used a needle that reduces the intensity by half and limiting damage to an inch and a half, with intact skin surface, we have the ideal combination and the closest thing to a perfect treatment.
Do not be a conformist and fight to have covered all sides, without ever abandoning a realistic prospect.
We discussed several possible options to get this project started and in the end,she decided for herself how she wanted to proceed. She continues to shave her face until we can catch up. The length of appointments are so determined by the client. It can take as much as 25 hours, give or take, to get a first, full clearance on beards like this client has. We can only do so much at a time and it was her desire to start with her lip. I had no objections. She is my boss.
Can anyone give a primer on how to video tape myself? I have a flip video, but have little Insight on how to proceed. I’m only partially techy, so help! Jossie what do you do?
gasp This just left me speechless!
Hey, Mike “James Bond” Bono 007 Secret Agent Man of the California Division of Unwanted Hair, Espionage Department, here is a link that might help: http://www.dectro.com/en/locate-a-salon/apilus-centers/united-states/california . Do you know anyone here that uses a Platinum or a Pure with Synchro that can invite you over?
Bond Here … he he he (I wish I had that Aston Marton! OMG, the new ones! Now THAT’S a British car!)
Here’s my first letter:
Dear New Leaf Skin,
I hope you are all well and enjoying (finally) the “late” summer.
We have had way too much fog this season and the day temp only gets to 70!
My name is Mike Bono and I’m an electrologist living in Santa Barbara (in practice since 1976).
I’m very interested in seeing the Apilus Platinum machine, it does seem to offer some most unique features.
If at all possible, I would enjoy visiting your office and having you explain and demo the unit for me.
If this is at all possible, I will be very happy.
Of course, if your schedule is too busy, I will also understand.
Be Well and Best Wishes to you!
Mike Bono

“Now, that’s what I’m talkin’ about!” (said with teeth together and lips stretched tightly with elbows at a ninety degree angle). My new best friend is Natusko in Tustin, but she would be about 2 hours away from you. She is on the list as well, next to New Leaf.
Just discovered your post. No Disney films intended, zap. I can’t be more honest than I have been. I have never said that treating any area, especially on par with the upper lip is easy-peasy. There is sensation involved. There are temporary side effects like erythema, edema and perhaps a few pinpoint scabs here and there might be some tiny white pustules. What I am saying is what you a saying - people are different. They react differently. They have a different skin types. They have different immune response. They may follow good aftercare instructions or they may be touching the area consciously or unconsciously.
This isn’t a fairy tale. Many people do very well, just like stoppit’s little sister. Very fine to very coarse hairs can be affected like Jossie and stoppit confirm, if all things are clicking just right. Skill… Do I need to expand on that word?

Dee, You mean to exhibit in Hairtell? I think the best option is to upload to Youtube. You must create an account on Youtube. When you’re done, give “upload video”. This will take a few minutes (depending on the length of the video). When you have made, copy and paste the link here.
Hi Dee, there will be various ways depending on your equipment.
If you are wishing to record the actual insertions (such as in Jossie’s videos), I would personally recommend getting someone with a DSLR camera to help out. With the right lens, they would be able to record video in great quality and focus. This would then be uploaded to the computer and then uploaded to youtube where it can be watched in various levels of quality.
I’ll offer a few comments regarding my treatment before and after evaluating the Laurier IBP. I determined that one reason (other than my Irish red-toned skin itself) for severe pinpoint inflammation after treatment was the moisturizer I was using. It seems the various alcohols in it were aggravating the most sensitive spots, causing extreme redness for several days. You can see it in some of my earlier pictures, taken a day or two after treatment. When I discontinued using the moisturizer for the first three days following treatment, and rinsed with only witch hazel, the inflammation was significantly reduced.
Regardless of the moisturizer versus witch hazel point, switching to the Laurier IBP resulted in an immense improvement in surface inflammation (practically none) and effectiveness of treatment. The first time Margaret used the IBP, she and I were equally amazed the next day and again a week later. For my sensitive skin, it’s been a blessing. For her, it’s an excellent tool in her electrolysis arsenal.
After an hour clearing many very fine hairs from my upper lip this morning, I was at work in the office less than two hours later.
I would describe this effect as virtully identical to that of one of my TG clients. The only difference, is that we had just acheived the initial clearance of the densest areas, (neck and chin), so shaving is now discontinued, and at this stage,an improvement in the skin is typically evident. However this is way beyond expectation, and my client and I are both thrilled. Yes, these probes add a new level of comfort to this process and control of skin reaction. This forum has taught me so much, it is like "finishing school"and I am deeply grateful, to the other professionals, who share their knowledge so happily.
Mike Roy, I think you have been very quiet lately because you have been very busy…
What a surprise to receive the Laurier probes today. I think the the new, sterile packaging is great, with one probe per package. I like the pretty blue packaging, too. I will try them out for tomorrow’s appointments and let you know how all goes.
Dee
If there were a CONSUMER REPORTS article,
Laurier’s would rate highest for construction.
Now that they are available in single sterile packets, I can’t wait to try them on everyone. God bless business-folks like you Mike. I hope your time and investment is rewarded.
I have always wished that we could have some kind of resource for our industry that would enable electrologists to provide pros and cons of their equipment. A CONSUMER REPORTS of sorts. This IS the perfect place for that.
Our profession is in luck. Unfortunately, only few manufacturers are excited to meet the demand of professionals, especially when that demand matches the client’s interests.
Mike Roy, you should be proud to have followed the WAY marked by your father. He left his arrows engraved on the stones of the road. You have painted those arrows with an intense yellow color and now things will be easier for everyone. I guess that has not been easy to adapt to the times while maintaining the quality of the probes and the essence of design.
My sincere congratulations!!
It reminds me that I must update the thread with the test arm.
August 2011 (4 ½ months after the first clearance.
Except for the few hairs that appeared in the area because they could not be treated (shedding phase), the area has remained clean and the circle looks in perfect contrast with the rest of the arm.
Just to remember the picture of “before”. April 2011.
Amazing Josefa!
You put a smile on my face
