Palomar Starlux Laser or IPL?

I have been inquiring with the various local laser hair removal providers here in the Milwaukee area and it sounds like many of them use IPL. One place said they use laser but when I asked the model, they said it was a Palomar Starlux 650NM. In the FAQ section here, it sounds like it is IPL, not laser. This is getting frustrating! For me, someone with the light skin/black body hair profile that sounds like laser would work for me, would IPL work for me, or should I only look at lasers? Does anyone have a recommendation of a laser provider in the Milwaukee area? Thanks!

Here are a few true lasers:

Awesome! You just saved me a lot of time! Thanks!

Hopefully, not too much time. These are not personal recommendations from me. I just Googled “laser hair removal Milwaukee.” You still need to take time to investigate each businesses’ experience and skill.

I would say that IPL works just as well as laser (but the last time I said that here I got a lot of backlash so I’ll just tell you what I know so dont take my word for it I dont want to start a huge debate) I have noticed that everytime I open my mouth to say anything about comparing the two offline or on there is a huge debate and I definitely dont want to get into one as both sides have their opinions. Here are some facts:

I had IPL and it did well for me as in I no longer have to shave legs or under arms, I pluck a couple of hairs and thats it.

Palomar is a local manufacturer (to where I live) and I have heard only good things about them but I have never had hair removal with the starlux so I cant speak for it.

The only thing I can say is I heard from a former employee that several large chains (I am not mentioning names) make their employees lower ipl settings to the minimums so they dont burn anyone but that makes it innefective and gives ipl a bad name. That may be true for laser as well but I am not sure.

Gosh, I hope it isn’t true. I have one client who had awesome results with IPL. I don’t know the name of the IPL, but she was very happy. I’m refining her IPL areas because she wants total hair removal.

You’re fine and sorry if you felt that you crowed out by debate and backlash in your past dealings here.

IPLs work. They just don’t work as well. You could have potentially got better results faster if you used a better machine. The issue with IPLs is also using worse IPLs than Palomar’s and using them on skin types darker than type IV. That’s when it’s really noticeable. We try to recommend the absolute BEST way to get results because I feel if you’re going to spend the same amount of money and time, why not get the best?
