On August 1, 2002, Palomar Medical Technologies Inc (PMTI) announced that it received FDA clearance to market a new handpiece for the Palomar EsteLux™ IPL/flash lamp system for permanent hair reduction for all skin types, including tanned skin.
The LuxRs red light filtered handpiece expands the EsteLux system’s treatment capabilities which also include yellow and green filters for other dermatological applications.
While FDA allows the devices to be used on all skin colors, it’s very important for consumers with darker skin tones and tanned skin to do careful research before undergoing laser or flash lamp hair removal. The likelihood of side effects including burns, discoloration, and scarring, are much higher for darker skin tones. Practitioner skill is essential, so find soeone recommended by a consumer with your skin tone who is done and happy.
