Pain due to menstruation

I attended my third electrolysis session on thursday. I usually get breasts and the strip under my belly button done. Usually I have no pain and for the most part I dont even feel anything. This time she started on my stomach. She started putting in a few probes (I get multi probe electrolysis) and it hurt so incredibly. I felt surges and it hurt so badly. She noticed my discomfort and asked if I was near my menstrual cycle. I told her yes that I was due the next day and she said that would make me more sensitive to treatment. She tried turning it down but then the hairs would not release. So we moved onto my breasts. They were painless and felt normal. And we decided to wait til next week to try my stomach again.

So has anyone else had trouble receiving electrolysis on/close to their period?

This is normal. Most people are most sensitive around the period time.

So should I avoid electrolysis the week of my menstrual cycle and the week before it? What about the week after my cycle? Am I still too sensitive?

You could try to avoid those weeks, but that doesn’t leave much time in between. Some people take their favorite pain medication before they come.

Perhaps you should get as many consults as you can with other electrologists. By doing this, you may discover someone with that special touch that will make your session more comfortable, regardless of that time of the month.
