I’m thinking of getting electrolysis to thin out the hair on my hands and maybe my feet. I emphasise thin out because no hair would just look weird.
I’m hoping maybe to spend an hour, maybe two and hope that would be enough but here’s my question…
When one hair is treated,is that it gone for good or do you have to get each one treated a few times.I really hope this isn’t the case as I’m hoping to get reduction by laser elsewhere on my body and as a 20 year old funds aren’t exectly rolling in.
Any help would be great.
Hard to say, since everyone seems to respond differently. In my experience, after about three passes you’ll start to notice a real reduction. Fingers are hard to do, though, it seems. I’ve had them cleared over and over again, and still need maintenance. I need toe work, too, and have been told that it’s similar.
Hair removal is a process. If you laser anything, it’s going to take multiple sessions, too (at least 5 in most people.) If you don’t have a lot of money to spend, I would start with the electrolysis since it’s cheaper and pretty much guaranteed to work (laser seems pretty hit or miss.) The bad thing is, at 20, you’re going to be producing new hairs for a long time. So, even if you clear an area, hormonal stimulation make cause new hairs to appear.

Jesus how long till most people stop?
you can be producing hair until you’re 25-28 at a high rate and then just a few hairs here and there forever. the body doesn’t stop functioning unfortunately <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />. i doubt an hour or 2 will make a huge difference for you, but maybe 5-10 hours can. depending on how much reduction you’re looking for, either laser or electrolysis can be an option. it’s hard to say without seeing how much hair you have and where you want to be in terms of reduction. also, if you are going to do electrolysis, you should wax or shave before you start, so you make sure to only treat GROWING hairs that have a much higher rate of getting killed on the first try.
hmmm well there’s enough hair to make me feel uncomfortable about it,I’m sure I’m not the worse case out there. In terms of reduction as i said earlier I want to thin it out to look normal(as we all do:( ) not totally hair free and I don’t plan on touching my fingers. 25-28!the thought scares me,I’m hairier than my dad and none of his bros are hairy and my mothers dad and bro were pretty hairy but I wouldn’t say as bad as me as I’ll be at their age:(. my only hope is that I’ve been told I might have an over active thyroid gland.would anyone know if that has an effect and if controlled would I have less hair growth?
yes, thyroid issues are related to excessive hair growth. is that being controlled?
Well it hasn’t been confirmed yet,it’s been used as a possible explanation for other symptoms I’ve experienced. Does it have a major effect?
Hey iffpyros…saw that u just started arms…i’m about to start that area within the next few weeks first and work to shoulders and upper back if the results are good. ANyway, wondering are you male, age etc. Jus would like to follow how ur treatments r goin.
Thanks
Hi iffypyros,
You indicated that you might have an overactive thyroid and asked if this might have something to do with excessive hair growth. I have never read anything that would lead me to the understanding that hyperthyroidism causes excessive hair growth.
Common symptoms and signs of an overactive thyroid:
Palpitations
Fast heart rate
Heat intolerance
Nervousness
Trembling hands
Insomnia
Muscle weakness
Breathlessness
Increased bowel movements
Light or absent menstrual periods
Fatigue
Weight loss
Warm moist skin
Hair loss
Staring gaze
the following article has some of the most common causes, including certain medications: http://www.pdrhealth.com/patient_education/BHG01EN13.shtml

I’m a male, twenty years old. I haven’t started anything yet and was just planning to get my hands done although at this stage I don’t know if I’m going to cos I figured I’m just cursed at this stage
I figure I must have some sort of hormonal problem becuse I’ve lost alot of hair on my head too
another excellent site for that is http://www.hairlosstalk.com
Why cannot we make hair magically go away where we don’t want and make it grow where we want?
WHY WHY WHY?
