Not so taboo after all

Last night after having a few (ok a lot) drinks, my buddy and I were talking to two girls that we know. We somehow got on the subject of pubic hair. The girls were saying that they appreciated it if guys were trimmed, but if shaven they must by freshly shaven. My friend apparently trims his but I told them I don’t do either. I don’t trust myself with a razor near “myself.” It did get into this huge debate about guys and their pubic hair and I asked them what they thought about guys having it all removed.
I had always thought nobody else really knew or cared too much about hair removal methods outside of shaving but my friend was like o with electrolysis? That made the conversation a little bit easier and the subject of hair removal is not as taboo as we think. Now of course if I just walked up and asked those girls what they thought if I got my pubic hair permanently removed with electrolysis, they probably would have thought I was really drunk.
Once I told them that I know a guy who has had electrolysis down south (someone I met through hairtell), they thought that sounded pretty interesting.
What does everybody think?

This is a lot more common than you would think. In the back of some magazine (I forget whether it was Maxim or “Stuff”), there was a poll about body hair removal. As it turns out a higher percentage of men trimmed or shaved their pubic hair than shaved their chests. It was 70-80% for the pubic area and 35% for the chest.

I think hair removal for men in general is becoming less taboo.

personally i never saw anything “nasty” about body hair on men. i mean for chest, arms and legs. For me its natural, normal and expected. evolutionary wise men have more hair than females… a lot more and i never saw it as gross. i dont see why men feel like they need to remove the hair. you guys should be lucky that you dont have to worry about these things!! like us women!

hey even back hair and all those hairry places men complain about. when i see it on guys, it never bothers me. for me it is just natural. i expect it. i find it more weird when men have less hair than women!

but if a woman has hair on her chest or back or legs or whatver, people will take double takes and freak out! next thing you know she’s on guinness world of records!

its hard being a woman.

to the men out there, you shouldnt make hair a major concern for you as it is with women. It doesnt have to be for you. just enjoy it and dont give yourself unnecessary added stress.

p.s. i understand it is different for athletes.

Actually, women have just as much body hair as men, but a lot of it is finer and lighter in color, but it is still there.

Just thought I would throw in some hair trivia today.

BTW, looks are not the only reason we remove excess body hair. Go outside on a 90 degree day wearing a wool sweater, oh and put a T shirt on over it. Now you know what it feels like to be really hairy if you were not blessed with that much hair to begin with.

Just because something is natural doesn’t necessarily mean it is good. Flatuence is natural too but we don’t celebrate that, do we?

Hi Rachelle

There is nothing wrong with choosing hairiness. I have to agree with RJC that personal comfort is very important. I started shaving my body for sports reasons, but I now acknowlege that both comfort and appearance are major contributors to why I remove body hair as well. Living in a hot climate makes one appreciate the difference in having smooth skin. Some men and women will always prefer hair on a male body, but generally I have found most people where I live like a smooth look.

I would agree with Stuart and RJC. Removing body hair for some men becomes like a ritual. I shaved my torso last night in the shower for the first time in almost two years. Looking at my skin now I don’t know why I haven’t been shaving more often. I live in a really hot climate as well and body hair becomes a pain, especially the dark thick hair that men can have. I will say that there are mixes of girls who like body hair on guys and girls who will bluntly state their disdain for it. Which is fine with me, I happen to be a fan of the sleek look for guys - it definitely makes a difference in appearance. I do think in the years to come we will see the trend increase even more for smooth male bodies. The 70’s are over!

Hi md1239

You are right about the '70’s being over. I trim my chest hairs at the moment and it is much better than having a “fur coat” on my chest. I find that when temperture and humidity are high I struggle to breath easily with a lot of chest hair. This might all be in my mind, but I prefer to remove most of this hair for comfort in all respects. As for leg hairs I will never look back again. The appearance is way better than before and I believe most men will soon see the benefits of smoother skin all round.

woow. i did not realize that body hair had that much of an effect with regards to living comfortably physically.

you guys are absolutley right with it comes to sweat and smell and being plain old clean. I can see why underarm hair is great to remove not just for women but for men too and on a regular basis. its just good hiegene.

i figure leg hair and chest hair isnt as bad but for most i think its the look of smoothness they are after. especially those who are into body building.

I personally dont care about the hair on men. for me its natural and i expect to see it. the underarm hair i can deal without but thats only for their comfort. i guess my attitude comes from my background (mediterranian) and in our society, the males (and females lool) are hairy.

Its funny how people say hair on men is natural, so they should not worry about it. Hair on women is just as natural, is it not? While on average men have darker, and thicker body hair than women, some women certainly are hairier than some men. Only this since the 1920’s or so, have women routinely shaved. So, the idea that it is natural for men to be hairy, and natural for women to shave, is really kind of goofy. Truthfully, left to nature, we all would be hairy. I’ve seen women with more leg hair than I have, by a long shot. Pit hair is about equal on both. Obviously, men are more likely to have hair on their face, chest and abs.

The reason women shave their legs, in part, is it looks so much better. It also looks much better on men. This is especially true for men who bodybuild, who have nice mucled legs. Those look much nicer, and more defined, smooth. I’ve seen men with very skinny legs who shave, and I’m not sure that looks as good, but those legs probably didn’t look good with hair, either. Likewise, pit hair is just gross. It is thick and dark, and as you age it kind of spreads out. It holds moisture, and odor, and when it is long and you can see it under a guys arms even if they are by his side, it is just plain ugly. I tthink armpits are a beautiful part of the human anatomy, but they have to be shaved. On women, it is very sexy when you can see their pits, as the world of fashion photography knows. On men, too, if they shave and have some muscle, you can see their biceps and lats, as well as their pecs, and it is extremely sexy. Personally I love being touched there, and who wants to touch, much less lick (my favourite) wet pit hair?

I know some women love chest hair, I guess like men enjoys a woman’s breasts. On the other hand, a smooth, muscled chest must feel nice as well, and looks much better. Plus, smooth skin against smooth skin feels way better than smooth skin against hair. I love the feeling of my smooth legs against a woman’s, it feels so nice, and without hair, my body feels touch much more intensely. Plus, if you like to be licked all over, the woman doesn’t end up with hairballs in her mouth.

Hi everyone!

Veinlover, you’re definitely right about smooth skin being sensual as far as kissing and licking goes. You feel so much more with your smooth body against hers. My girlfriends also liked me having smooth pits. It’s hard imagining any women licking and kissing a smelly mouth full of armpit hair–yuck!

What do the rest of you think about smooth being sensual?
