Normal reaction to Electro

Hi, i recently did electrolysis on my cheeks and had 3 hours first up and managed to get most of the area clear. After a few days i had scabs and white papules but with some advice from here i applied tea tree oil and witch hazel which worked quite well. Now after 11 days I have some dark spots especially near the beard line and its quite noticeable, I wanted to know if this is a normal reaction or should i stop going. i have attached pics of me at 3 days, and one presently. I also wandered if the reaction be like this every time I went or because this was my first clearance it was much worse. Thanks for any advice.

Hi Kp123,

I’m not a pro but your reaction seems normal for 3(!) hours of treatment, at what seems to have been fairly high intensity, on a very sensitive part of the body!

In fact your skin doesn’t look so bad, all things considering. You did a good job with the aftercare. However this hyperpigmentation could take a few months to go away.

Personally, if the practitioner cannot be convinced to tone it down considerably, I’d look for another, more gentle one.

This doesn’t look like hyperpigmentation to me. Your skin is still healing. This is likely due to shallow insertions and/or insertions that punctured the follicular wall. Did you feel poking? Then, she needed to use higher settings to get the hair to release, thus under-treating the bottom of the follicle and over-treating near the skin surface. Can/should this be avoided the next time? Absolutely. But will this redness last for a long time? I’d give it another week or so to fade away.

That’s for the reply guys, its great to hear that its nothing permanent. I hope it does heal in a few weeks Yb, I did feel some poking, what you are describing sounds pretty accurate. I will try to talk to my electrologist about this next time I go in.
