Newbie To LHR Advice Wanted

Hi, I’m 27 years old and just being tested for PCOS. I have suffered with unwanted hair for years but have been too embarrassed to talk about it really with anyone. Just lately over the last couple of years it’s been getting worse.

Main trouble areas include chest, back of neck, top and bottom of back. The hair is corse.

I’ve decided I want to do something about it now that may help in the long term.

I have very light skin, type 1 Fitzpatrick with red / auburn hair. The hairs are very light brown / blondy. There is a little pigment there but not a lot.

I’ve just been to see the first clinic. They use the Lumenis One System with Lightsheer for hair removal. The practitioner who operates it was the first in the UK to use this model and is a doctor. She says she also trains other UK clinics up who use the Lumenis One system and seems very confident in talking about its benefits.

I raised a little concern with my hair colour and was told that while it may take longer because it’s not dark brown, it still should work. She says se has treated nearly 400 people on the machine.

Also the quote was £500 chest, adbomen and whole back.

Just wondered if other people in a similar sirtuation have used this system with success and if the price I was quoted seems ok or not.

Cheers

LightSheer diode is not the best for your situation. I would get test spots with an alex like GentleLASE first at high settings to see if your hair has enough pigment to be affected.

Don’t pay anything to anyone before getting several test spots at high settings and seeing if the hair even sheds. If it doesn’t, there is no point of treating. Only electrolysis would work.

Thanks for the advice. Guess it’s hard to tell if they’re being totally honest or not. I was kind of expecting a no from them, but she didn’t say that, which makes me wonder a bit.

Would you advice getting several test patches over time or just to test each laser once? Also, if there’s shedding does that definitely mean that follicle has been destroyed at it should work? So if there’s shedding it should work and if nothing happens on the patch after 2-3 weeks then it won’t work?

If you’re willing to pay to try, most will gladly take your money.

If you can find a clinic with an alex that is willing to test aggressive settings, you only need one test patch.

Shedding doesn’t mean that it is definitely gone for good, but it means your hair has enough pigment at least. So if treating at high settings, it should be affected just fine. If there is no shedding, nothing is happening and money is being wasted.

I’ve found a clinic near me with an Alexandrite so will see what happens in the free test patch. Cheers

Make sure to ask what joules, spot size, and pulse width they’re using.
