New York Area referrals

Hi - I am looking for private practitioners in NYC area ( or philly, actually)

I am sorry if I am missing some search functionality, but when I searched nyc the threads didn’t seem relevant so maybe nyc was showing up only in signatures. I did read the how to find a clinic and FAQ threads, but since I am looking for ‘mom and pop’ type people, I am hoping I may get personal referrals
anyway

I want an alexandrite laser, and am looking for a good value for legs and bikini. It doesn’t have to be private, my friend went to a private woman and her prices were much better, with great results. However, they stopped doing laser so I am looking for something similiar.

Has anyone tried sunshine laser?

I have talked to Chris per telephone before. He runs a reputable business and is a very competent laser specialist. His contributions here have been most welcomed. Say hello to him for me next time you see him, that is, if you are not finished with laser.

Chris runs a very reputable clinic in NYC. There are dozens of others too. You should check several out for consultations and make your decision about who you think is most concerned with your results and is knowledgeable. I would also advise to check reviews online before you go. And you should make sure they use aggressive settings. Price should come after all these factors if you don’t want to end up wasting your money.

There is a reputable clinic in Allentown, PA as well.

Thanks everybody. I understand chris has a great service, but I can’t afford it at this point. As a professional, I completely understand that quality and price are closely related, but I haven’t been able to get any laser at standard prices for five years despite desperately wanting it, because I haven’t have the income. However, quite a few places are advertising for much cheaper recently (the economy?), so I’m going to investigate. Did lots of research for online reviews, so at least I know a couple of places to avoid.

One question- is it possible to get burned or have permanent side effects from an alexandrite laser? I think the people with burns used IPL. Should I be concerned? I plan on asking the detailed questions from the sticky list and I have reasonable intuition, but I just want to understand ‘worst case’ side effects. Sorry if I missed that somewhere

Thanks for all your thoughts

Anyone else please feel free to suggest.

ahh…for the burn question, I have type I skin and dark hair on these areas

I agree with ihatebody hair - at least try it out.

You want to choose somewhere that offers really good treatments because if they are skilled, use the right Laser for you and the right settings, with the right kind of time frames between treatments, you will need fewer treatments overall and save money in the long run.

Most of these places that offer cheaper treatments or cheap packages will just keep you going back again and again.

Chris has a clinic in Queens that I think may be cheaper. You can try it out. He’s usually good with pricing, especially if you mention that you found him here. Talk to him directly.

You have to take into account that Chris includes touchups in his pricing. Other clinics may not cover the area well and you’ll need more treatments overall because of it, making the overall cost even higher.

My friend has been to Lasertouch Soho purely due to convenience and liked it. They have the GentleLASE. www.Yelp.com has a bunch of other clinics with decent reviews too. I would always make sure that they use good settings. Undertreatment is often a bigger concern than overtreating/burning.

Burns are very rare, especially on type I skin. And I have yet to see any permanent issues resulting from burns. Pretty much all of them resolve themselves even if they do happen.

Thank you for everyone’s comments. I really appreciate it. I have worked with clients from this Forum and have always tried to be fair with pricing, whenever possible.

Like LAgirl mentioned, there are alot of places to go and get treated. However, this is what I would pay attention to:

Are the lasers bought from the Manufacturer or from the Internet ??
Are they properly calibrated ??
Who is servicing the lasers ??
Are the Technicians New York State Licenced Estheticians or just technicians ??

Some of the places mentioned in this Forum do not pass these tests.

I have refrained from commenting in the past about these issues because it may sound like advertising but I care about the consumer and would like them to have a good laser experince and not waste their money.
