New to this need some advice!

I have hair that I would like to have removed and would like to know what is the best way to do this and and it be on a permanant basis. I here of so many movie stars that are obsesed with this and I think I am too!! I hate having hair in places that are just not fair!! Like nipples and butt area how do you get rid of this? I pluck them out or shave but I would like to remove them permanantly and creams only make me breakout and I think that they are a real waste as well unless someone can tell me of the cream that can perform miracles!?! I also used to bleach hair but I have a theory on this one and I feel bleaching will cause more hair to grow out, not sure if I’m right but this is my take on it after doing it many times in the past.

Anyways a hairy butt and hair on the nipple area is not very attractive so I would like to be hair free. It’s not like I’m a overly hairy person but I sure think I am, it’s enough to me. Though my partner doesn’t seem to mind, but I DO!! The hair on my head is dark do to dying, but I’m a brown head originally. I have a lot of hair on my head for now, but fine hair that is. I pluck my eyebrows and have to do them every month or 2x a month depending on weather and body cycle this has a lot to due with hair growth in a person as well as any meds a person may take. I’ve been stricken with RA since I was 8 years old and take Prednisone on a regular basis as of 2004 so this to may have an effect on my hair.

My upper lip is also an area that I would like to be hair free my GOD why does this happen!?! I get black hairs and white corse ones on the upper lip area. I used to get them waxed but I never felt like they were ever done right it always felt like there was still hair there. They would miss spots and not wax all the way through leaving short ones and this just pissed me off. They also would pluck after as well and would still miss ones. I would have to do the feel test to let them know and if they didn’t pluck, which I have to say I’m a PRO at they would mess it up and you’d have like ingrown hair or short ones.

SO now I just pluck them myself, but this can be a real bitch if you don’t stay on it like a HAWK that is!! Anyways some input on this would be GREAT. I really like the idea that there’s somewhere to go to discuss this kind of stuff. Also can I do something at home that can make this easier or am I just doomed to spending tons of money on this kind of stuff until all the hairs are gone. Thanks so much for listening and your time!!

I don’t have time to really get into this right now, but PLEASE stop plucking!

Read up on the site, and use the search feature. There is lots of information here that will help you.

The prednisone may have stimulated hair growth. Did you have a problem with unwanted hair well before you had taken the prednisone for your arthritis? In high enough doses over a period of time, prednisone could work against you and cause unwanted hair.

Waxing and plucking are horrible for a woman’s face. Yes, please STOP. Where do you live? A skilled electrologist with modern tools would be the best choice for those different colored hairs on your face. Maybe we can point you toward an electrolgist that can help you.

Is waxing really such a horrible method? I get my eyebrows and upper lip waxed and although OF COURSE the hair returns, it always returns just as thick (or should I say thin) as it originally was. YES it’s a pain to do every couple of weeks and costs $$$$, but it does the job for that period of time. I don’t think it’s fair to say it’s a “horrible” for a woman’s face.

Then you haven’t seen close up and personal women that have repeatedly waxed their faces for years. Professional electrolgists have seen it all. Some cases are stunning and shocking, but we can fix all the damage from years of facial abuse.

Think about this: by some estimates, that there are 500 follicles per square centimeter on the upper lip area. Say estimates say 800. Some hairs are so vellus that you can barely see them. Some are very noticable and some follicles are inactive, but may become active at some point in your life cycle. When you wax this particular area, you violently rip out the good vellus hairs along with the bad thick hairs. Blood rushes to the area to repair the trauma because that is how the body responds o any kind of trauma. Male hormones travel through the body via the circulatory system. So, when you wax, you are inviting all those hair follicles to be bathed in blood-rich hormones. What does hair need to grow deeper, stronger and longer? Blood and hormones. If you wax every couple of weeks, those follicles are being well-feed on a routine basis. This seems to happen more so on a woman’s face. Eyebrow hair can develop scar tissue from repeated waxing and give up and not grow after awhile, but don’t hold your breath and wait too longfor this to happen. Leg hair loses it’s good blood supply as we age, so many people who have waxed their legs for years conclude that waxing caused this change when in fact, a decreased food supply (blood) actually caused the hair to thin or to disappear. It is also possible that women who have never waxed or tweezed their faces can also still have thick gross hair as well. We are all made with unique genetic codes. So hair is mysterious and tough, but we see a comon denominator for many women who have waxed their faces repeated and that’ why I used the word ‘horrible’.

This isn’t a matter of what’s fair to say and what isn’t fair to say. You can take information from this site and change your behavior or not change your behavior. All we can do is explain what we know and observe about hair removal and pass on anything that may be good or not so good for you to do to get rid of the hair.

Did I clarify things well enough for you?

Thanks,

Dee

Any information on threading? I might start getting that done…

Unfortunately eyebrows and electrolysis aren’t the best combination since the best way to get a good, defined shape/arch is with either waxing or threading. I’m sure threading can’t be as bad as you make waxing out to be?

Don’t get me wrong, I realize the damage waxing does. I’ve heard it stretches skin, etc and I most definitely believe that is true. But at the same time I’ve seen a couple of people who have gotten electrolysis done on their upper lips and it’s scarred the skin. I know what you’re going to say - well were they seeing a professional because I professional wouldn’t ruin their skin! Yes they were, but sometimes electrolysis just doesn’t work on everyone’s skin.

Hmmm. You can get any shape of eyebrow you want with electrolysis. In fact, I would think it is more precise because one hair is taken at a time instead of a whole swath.

It is ok to wax or thread eyebrows for temporary removal. But, you could make the situation worse if you wax, pluck, or thread your upper lip.

Where are you located? Not all states have professional, LICENSED electrologists. Did your friends do their homework before they got electrolysis done? Did they shop around for the best? Did your friends take care of their skin before and after treatments? I am not saying that scarring doesn’t happen, I am just saying that it shouldn’t.

Hatinghair, you have got a lot of new information to learn because you are very, very misinformed about electrolysis. Electrolysis works for any hair color on any skin color 100% of the time when it is performed correctly. There are lousy electrologists out in the big world and I can’t do anything about them, but you and your friends, as hair removal consumers, are obligated to do your research well and not give such so-called “professionals” your business. We tell you what is good to know and what to look for and if you can’t take things from there, then it would be better for you to continue threading, waxing, tweezing. The methods you mentioned all do the same thing - they pull the hair out violently and can possibly stimulate more hair to grow studier than ever.

Eyebrows are the domain of electrolysis because it is hair by hair and one has total control over which hairs go and which hairs stay. Nothing comes close to electrolysis for the eyebrows.

For all you dear hair consumers reading this posters assessment of electrolysis, please do not be swayed by such comments. We don’t know where she lives. For all I know, she may be in a country where there are no professional licensing programs that train electrologists supported by good equipment and offer continuing education. There are many deep gaps far and wide when it comes to good electrolysis care and I advise those seeking permanent hair removal to keep doing their temporary thing if their only choice for electrolysis boils down to someone that can’t perform the art and science of permanent hair removal via electrolysis. It’s hard to do and takes passion.

Now, hatinghair, all you have to do is study up some more. I know it is time-consuming and hard work. We are here to watch the back of the consumer and your assessment and impressions may be true on your individual record for your place in time, but your comments do not align with the facts concerning what a modern electrologist can do for areas as simple as the upper lip and eyebrows. In other words, you don’t know what a good outcome feels like, but I hope you have the chance to know that someday.

:)Thank you so much for your direct answers. I live in Illinois, Gurnee that is and I would like to find someone who is in the area, GREAT and does not cost an arm and a leg sort a speak!! I’m new to the site and would like to know where to go to understand the terms and different venues I can take in order to get this done. What is Electrolysis exactly and is it the best way to get rid of hair for GOOD!?!

:confused:And if not, what would you say works best for someone who is a little bit hairy and would like to take care of sensitive areas. Like the upper lip, chin, nipples, butt, bikini area, toes and eventually legs. And does getting your arm pitts done show signs of being permanent by any of these ways as well? And why are you telling me to STOP PLUCKING, is this really that bad for you, I think even JLO gets PLUCKED!?! I take a low dose of Prednisone but I’ve been on it since 2004. My hair has been pretty much the same, maybe a little more but again I factor in weather and my cycle as well as the meds.

:(Anyways, please give this to someone who has the time to answer these meaningless questions. I know these are not technical questions that will rock your world, I just need a little help getting started please!! And are you telling people to do these things because you want to see more money go to these types of services!?! I’m going to guess that you may be bais when it comes to refering people and that’s okay but I would like to know the proof to the statements, not just don’t do this and leave at that!

:confused:What’s best for Facial Hair Removal and Proof why?

What’s best for other areas that are Sensitive and the Proof?

Where to go in Gurnne IL that is great, not pricy and will get the job done?

Proof on Plucking why it’s so bad?

And is there a HAIR REMOVAL SYSTEM THAT WORK’S FOR GOOD and the PROOF as well?

;)Thank you so much for listening!! Wising you all pain free days always!!

The thing that makes us smile about what you wrote is that, we are all very busy and taking time to answer questions here, and it is you that we assume has more time to seek the answers and proof of which you speak.

everything you are looking for is already laid out for you here on HairTell and on our sister site www.HairFacts.com, spend some time with the search feature, and reading up on old posts and do some of the reference checking on HairFacts, and Voila! You will have answered your own questions.

James gave you the information to find the facts!

Can weather really affect hairgrowth? I don’t have any scarring from electrolysis but for a person who has- could they do something like dermabrasion or laser resurfacing to get rid of it?

Weather? Seasons maybe?

Many times people have damaged their skin from tweezing and picking at hairs, smokers get lines - what methods of resurfacing will help those? I’m curious.
