New to electrolysis, I have a few questions...

So I’m considering getting electrolysis done in about 2 weeks. The thing is, I am a college student, and I dorm on campus, which is about 40 minutes away from home.

So my question is, for those who had taken breaks whether forced or not forced, how did you treat the area where the hair was growing? Did you shave, tweeze, use depilatories, etc? I understand that you’re not supposed to tweeze or wax the area, but this leads to my next question…

How long did it take for the treated hairs to grow back? Especially those who had gotten full clearance. And once you removed those hairs, did it grow as fast as before electrolysis?

And, this is mostly an estimation question, but how do you think will it take to get full clearance on my chin/neck hairs and belly hairs? There’s probably about 30 hairs on my chin/neck combined, and about 150-200 hairs on my abdomen. I’d say my hair is a mixture of a thin and medium-thick density.

I tried to search up these answers online, with no results. Thank you in advance.

Hi!
Do your research and find a good electrologist…I’m not sure where you are based but the 1st bit of advice I would give you is to try and see one of the electrologists who post regulary on here, or maybe someone who they can recommend close to you. (I live in London, tried treatment there and wasn’t getting anywhere so have had to travel to Scotland every 10-12 weeks to see Mairi Hawkes … It has been hard but our clearances started off being 4.5 hours, been to see her 5-6 times and we are down to about 45 mins per clearance now and thats getting even the finest of hairs…I will be travelling to see Josefa in October for some body work and to finish the little facial work left)

My point being… It’s worth travelling/paying the extra cost now to know you are going to someone who will kill the hairs 1st time round. I know you say you have around 30 hairs on the chin/neck…reality is its lots more than that but due to growth cycles you only see that amount at this time…hence having to go back for further clearances. Even with the best electrologist in the world it will take 12-18 months to have all the hair come through and be killed.

I found that a good electrologist with an Apilus Platinum, good vision aids and insulated probes made a hell of a difference… I was able to sit for 4.5 hours and get clear vs an hour of blend which was excruciating for me!

I think about 5-6 weeks for a clearance is good, that way you will be clear all the way through treatment (this may initially depend on what previous hair removal methods you have been using … If you have been plucking, waxing or laser more hair will be coming through initially. If the area has been left ‘untouched’ for months then you will have a better idea of how much hair you have in the area)

As I said above I only got clearances every 10-12 weeks due to the travelling. 12 weeks was about as long as I could go with the hair not bothering me too much. I’ve been at a point for several months now that I can go 12 weeks between clearances, not have to trim the hairs back and they are not noticeable to anybody else other than me!) Also I don’t mind the extra time I between sessions as it gives the skin more time to recover.

Oh and finally in theory the hairs ‘shouldn’t grow back’ if treated effectively the 1st time they should be killed. The hairs you think are growing back are actually different hairs appearing through the growth cycle. Also if you think believe you see more hair after treatment do not be alarmed … You will only focus on the thick visible hairs, once they are cleared you will begin to see thinner hairs you probably never realised you had or never bothered you before…they can all be treated as you have subsequent clearances!!!
Good luck!!

Love your post, Mark, because you described a scenario of how this best works. Electrolysis does deliver and your message of hope is inspirational. People want the hair off fast, so investing time up front to get good clearances is so beneficial and it is a concept about electrolysis that needs to be repeated.

I am so glad that Mairi got you to a good place and Josefa will make hay of those body hairs in October… The consumer has no idea what a gift this is when they find an electrologist that will do more than an hour of work on large areas or even small areas with a lot of hair. It can be a physically difficult thing to do, but what a life altering difference it makes to the hairy person on our table.

Life feels better with smooth skin.

Thank you for your response, Mark. In between those 10-12 weeks, what did you do to the hairs that sprouted out?

Thanks Dee! Im very lucky to have had advice from the people on here and get the best treatment available where I live within reason (unfortunately in Londin there isn’t anyone I’d go to for this kind of treatment … You couldn’t make it up really!)

Mk… I would just trim the hairs with scissors, you could bleach them also although I never had to do this personally. Like I said if you are lucky enough to have a good electrologist relatively close you can get cleared every 6 weeks weeks or as needed and be hair free throughout the period of treatment… It may be worth posting up where you are based and you may be closer to one of the electrologists on here then you think… Or you may get a refine ration from one if them for someone near to you!!
