New to Electrolysis: Help

I am 37 year old cis female with PCOS. Due to the PCOS I have started electrolysis for unwanted hair on my face. I have always had sensitive skin annd during my first 3 sessions (1 week apart) I had the chin and some of my neck worked on. During the first 3 sessions I held a metal rod. My skin was def red, slightly swollen and I had a a few white heads immediately after. The whiteheads eventually went away after 3-4 days but what people seem to call PIE tends to linger. Is this normal?

For my fourth session I decided to wait two weeks rather than 1. This time my electrolysist didn’t give me a rod to hold and we worked on the same area. But I feel like my skin this time around is alot more angry and inflamed, with more whiteheads. Do you know why I was not asked to hold a rod for this session and why this 4th session left my skin angrier than before? There is a bit of a language barrier with my electrolysist and I also didn’t have time to ask her these question.

My biggest fear with electrolysis had been scarring. Especially since I have sensitive skin. I do know that my electrolysist has been doing this line of work for over 15 years and primarily works with Trans patients. So I want to trust that she knows what she is doing. But I have my moments since this is all knew to me.

Sounds like your electrologist used thermolysis on your last appointment, that doesn’t require the ground bar. It creates more heat in the tissue, which would explain the irritation. You should have a conversation with them, let them know your concerns and ask what can be done. Your electrologist should be able to adjust settings, and advise you on pre and post care. Skin reactions can vary greatly client to client, and how you manage your skin between appointments is important. Your electrologist should be open to working with your concerns. Redness and swelling are common reactions. Breakouts can happen for a few different reasons and can typically be avoided with proper care.

Thank you for explaining this to me! I will def have a convo with her. Do you have any thoughts around why she would have decided to switch methods ?
