New to boards- question initial consult timing.

Hello,

I have been lurking for a few months on these boards and finally decided to go ahead with electrolysis, but I have a couple of questions (I’m sure these topics have been exhausted, but I can’t seem to find the answers atm). I am a 27 year old female with somewhat fair skin and dark hair. I want to get electrolysis for my upper lip, chin, stomach and a couple random areas eventually. I have always plucked the hairs on my chin because there aren’t that many, and waxed my upper lip.

I am writing because I want to schedule an initial consult and do a test patch, but I am not sure how long I should wait after I stop plucking to have it scheduled. I seem to recall about two weeks, but I couldn’t verify, and I want to schedule the apt at the correct time in growth cycles. Also, how long should the hair be when I go in for the appointment? I would assume it would have to be long enough to see, but I would rather not have to let it grow long enough so that people will notice it. Lastly,
would you recommend getting a test patch in a discrete area or the area I truly want treated? I know the face can produce different results, but the idea of a test patch is supposed to gauge your skin’s reaction, right? Any help would be truly appreciated.

I am going to take a recommendation that was posted by LAgirl for Arizona for my first consult. I haven’t seen any other specific referrals that have feedback so I have decided to start here and see how it goes.
The name is:
Maria Denicola
Arizona Laser, Electrolysis, & Skin Care
5702 N. 19th Ave.
Phoenix, AZ 85015
602-246-1966 [email protected]

Any additional feedback or referrals for the Mesa/Gilbert/Phoenix area would be appreciated. I am especially looking for someone with experience that can schedule on Fridays. Also, I would like to go to a place that has those numbing wipes (not sure if this is common or not) because I’m a bit of a wuss.

Thanks in advance. I am very happy to have found this site, not only for the information, but the support as well.

If you run a search for Phoenix, there are some other recommendations. I believe a regular poster sanny gets her treatments in that area and have seen several electrologists.

Technically, you can go in whenever there is hair to treat. The hair should have been grown out for less than 3-4 weeks, so that it’s in the first stage of growth. And it should be just long enough to see and grasp with a tweezer. I think you can get a test patch done on a couple areas just to see how skin on various areas reacts. Btw, remember that shaving is always fine during electrolysis. It actually can help the electrologist see which hairs are actively growing and are ready to treat.

In terms of overall timing, just make sure to schedules long appts in the beginning to get to your first clearance sooner. That way, you’ll only come in to get the new hairs that pop up and are in the right phase of growth. And you’ll always look hairfree that way.

Numbing wipes are not common. If you can’t handle it, there is numbing cream you can get and use. However, I got many many areas done and I never found the need for it. It’s completely tolerable, especially if they have good equipment and skill. Also, make sure to drink water, avoid caffeine, and take a painkiller beforehand.

When I get home I will get you another name as well that was posted here on hairtell. Until then, read all of “sanny’s” posts. She found someone else that was able to do a faster method than the electrologist at Maria’s and she is very pleased. I would private message “sanny” as well. She is very knowledgible and would be a great resource for you as you start your search.

Wow thanks for the quick replies. I will see if I can figure out how to do a search on a particular poster and read up before I IM Sanny. Thanks for the information. I will see how I can handle the pain w/o numbing wipes first then go from there.

Just run a search for “sanny” and then click on her handle. You’ll be able to see a list of all her past posts.

Dear Tea,

If case you have not located ‘sanny’s’ information, I just copied and pasted this for you from one of her posts. I would sample this electrologist as well as any others on your list.

" Ruth Ann Kruz of Afordable laser. There are two locations :Phoenix and Tempe. She is kind, business orriented (not much talking), and i have to say, pretty good at what she does. She uses numbing wipes which is a first for me, and very nice surprise. I am not sure about the type of thermolysis i am getting, but i know she told me its a short-wave thermolysis, when i first started. Its pretty much painless, especially when i compare it to the galvanic and all the terror i went thru. Last time i almost fell asleep."

Thanks for C/P. I think I have read it sometime before because the quote sounds familiar. I IM-ed Sanny and asked for an update, and if Sanny is still happy I think I have found my electrolysis center. Thanks for all the feedback guys; I will post again once I get a reply or go for my first apt.
