I am looking for recommendations for a new electrolysis machine in say the $500 range. Something more than the one-touch or clean+easy but less than the pro machines costing several thousand. This would be for home use by a couple doing it on each other. I figure there must be something in that middle ground. I am USA so need a machine for US power. I have looked at the ebay threads but I have an aversion to used equipment and I figure I’ll need a source for accessories. I would need both the machine recommendation plus a good online site where I can but it.
This would be great for you, but alas, it is in a museum now:
You seriously need to get over your aversion to used equipment. A used electrolysis machine is 10 times better than a used car. Bring your price point up to $800 and you can have a reconditioned professional machine with a one year warranty.
ok I am open. which model and who is selling it?
Take a look at this link. Scroll down to view the uniprobe lite epilator for $425 - new.
that sounds perfect. Might step up to their auto blend model. still less than <1k. Thanks.
Just a point here, that $425 Uniprobe is a thermolysis only machine, and for thermolysis only units, better ones are purchased used for as little as $99.00 on Ebay quite frequently. The Instantron Tronco-4 SS-69 comes to mind. Of course, if you are going to buy a home use machine, you really should get one that does all 3 modalities.
Hello!
I’m new to the forum and will be attending school to become an electrologist next month. I am trying to get information on the best machine to buy for a beginner that can perform all three methods. At the same time, I cannot afford an Apilus. My maximum is $1200. Is this even possible? Can I buy refurbished machines straight from the manufacturers? Any professional machines that fall in my price range?
Thanks
The range of $1,200 or less should get you something nice. A digital Gentronics with a multiple needle rack would be a fabulous choice for you. I have one if you are interested, that I used from 2001 to 2003 that I will sell for $900 if you pay the shipping. A Clareblend is another good choice. Dr. Myron Heimlich (sp?) at Texas Electrolysis refurbishes epilators and may have some good deals for you. I may have some links for you from other places other than e-bay.Just have to look. Some may private message you with deals if they read hairtell.
Good luck. Are you attending school in New York?
If you watch ebay carefully, you can find blend machines for under $500. The Instantron Elite (my first machine) commonly pops up and can usually be had for under $300.
However, if you have time to wait, and if you are very persistent, you can find an Apius machine on eBay for under $1000. If you have the time to wait, I would definitely hold out for an Apilus, especially a SM/SX-500 or a Senior/Senior II.
Apilus products do not offer multi-probe galvanic, but you can perform single probe galvanic if you desire.
Thanks dfahey. For some reason I feel more comfortable with a brand such as Apius, especially if I can purchase a refurbished one that falls in my price range. But i will keep you in mind. And yes I’ll be attending school in New York. Any pointers or advice? I have not paid my tuition yet, and any input about schooling would be very helpful.
Another question. Does the brand or model have anything to do with pain intensity. Purchasing a gentle machine that can perform the three modalties is very important for me. Even though I have not started school as of yet, I’m trying to do as much research on machines as possible.
By the way. I’ve been in contact with someone selling an Aplius Senior for two grand. I really have no way of knowing if this machine works without my training. Could anyone advise on this? I really hate to pass up this chance as it still may be available.
Thanks!
In terms of pain, it is the skill of the operator that matters most, but in terms of potential nothing beats the Apilus Platinum. When performing thermolysis, nothing beats the comfort of picoflash thermolysis that only the Apilus Platinum offers. Synchro is also something only the Platinum offers, and is fantastic for removing deep nasty hairs.
If one can’t get a Platinum, the SM/SX-500 or Senior line have microflash thermolysis which is also very comfortable (not as good as pico but much nicer than traditional thermolysis and much faster). Microflash is also offered on other a few other manufacturer’s machines as well.
Also remember, to decrease pain for the client, don’t forget to tell them to drink plenty of water, avoid caffeine, don’t come to an appointment stressed, etc. They can make a big difference too.
since this thread is still active but perhaps drifted away from the original topic, I thought I would post an update. I did buy the uniprobe light. I don’t think it works very well and would not recommend it. Next I did get over my aversion to used equipment and bought a Fischer CB2 on Ebay. I have used this quite a bit and am still not sure I have found the range where it is effective. One thing about the CB2 is that it has auto-sense only, no foot switch. This is both good and bad. Its good because the foot switch can be a hassle. The downside is that for the autosense to work, there is a “sensing” current that flows when you touch the needle to the skin. You can sometime feels this current and it can make insertions uncomfortable on sensitive skin. If a treatment starts to get painful, there is no easy way to stop it quickly. It wants to run its programmed time before it stops. Also, the CB2 uses UL for both thermolysis and blend which I don’t think makes sense. I think that makes it difficult to use UL numbers from books or tables on suggested UL settings. You can’t tell if the UL setting is reffering to the RF or the DC. Otherwise, the machine works as designed and cost me $400. Recently I decided I wanted a fully manual machine so I picked up a Clareblend Mini Blend also for $400. This machine is foot pedal only so there is no sense current problem. Also, since it has meters, you can see exactly how much DC is flowing so you can get the UL number right. I wish it had a timer but otherwise, it seems to treat with less pain than the CB2. I have not seen any Aplius available for less than $1000. Some luck person got a senior for $1300 and there have been a couple of Jrs listed for around $1500 bundled with other stuff like sterilizers.
Rhodesengr you’re right. I apologize for drifting off topic. Can someone direct me to the appropriate place to post my last post?
Sorry. I’m new to forums.
why not start a new topic? Anyway, nothing to apologize for. Threads veer off the original topic all the time. Just seeing the thread pop to the top sort of promted me to update so I owe you some thanks
