New GentleLASE 18mm highest setting=16J??

After posting here about settings that I thought were way too low on the GentleLASE (6 & 7 joules), someone pointed out that it could not have been 7 joules because GentleLASE goes in 2-joule increments. I thought maybe I just heard the nurse wrong during the treatment.

I just called to verify the settings and the phone was handed to a nurse who looked it up. They were: GentleLASE, 18mm, 6 and 7 joules. I asked how that could be and she said it was a brand new model that goes in 1-joule increments. When I asked what the highest setting was on 18mm she said 16 joules.

Is this correct? Can anyone verify that there is such a machine?

Yeah, that makes sense but I’m still confused as to why she said the max setting for this new machine on 18mm is 16j. This was coming from a nurse who operates the machine. Maybe she was confused. I’ll have to ask again when I get a chance, I don’t want to be spreading misinformation.

Okay, thank you for clearing that up.

I noticed that this new machine has an adjustable pulse width. Do you think this would make it safer to use on type IV skin? For example using 18mm, 14-18 joules, and 10-20ms? Or something like that, basically increasing pulse width a little and also increasing fluence to enable safe but effective/permanent damage to the follicles and all the while using an alexandrite laser?

It makes sense to me, is there a reason this kind of approach might not work?
