New electrolysis user!

Hi

I’ve been keeping up with some of your electrolysis journals for a while now. They’ve been really useful and gave me a lot of courage & confidence in this method! Just last week, after a year of research and mentally preparing myself, I finally took the plunge!!

I’m doing my chin and upper lip. The electrolysist was referred to me by my dermatologist and she has over 10 years of experience. I’m assuming she’s very reputable although I don’t know anyone treated by her.

These first 2 times were honestly pain free, or at least not as much as I expected: there was less pain than tweezing although I’d feel the heat sometimes. I have never felt the needle being inserted

I was just concerned since we’ve only been doing 15 minute sessions but every time I come back home and check, there are always so many hairs still left over!! I thought she was supposed to clear it all up! Is this a trick to keep me coming back for a longer period of time? Should I ask her for a 30 minute session next time? (10 on chin and 20 on upper lip)

I was also concerned about the fact that the salon advertises IPL hair reduction on their window but she told me it’s electrolysis! There are 2 other ladies also working in the salon, so I’m guessing only they are performing IPL? Electrolysis is not at all advertised on their window

Lastly, after the electrolysis, she always puts a wet tissue on the area that was worked on and then rolls this thing which creates a bit of electricity/vibrations that I feel slightly on my skin! She told me it was cataphoresis. I haven’t read this one anyone’s posts as of yet? Is this actually effective for temporary side effects?

Thank You so much for taking the time to answer my questions!
I really appreciate it!

Just to check - your electrologist is using a needle inserted in the follicle, right?

Where are you still seeing hair after the treatment? If it is on the upper lip, then this is a standard protocol, to thin the upper lip and not clear it. If you are still seeing hairs on the chin, well then, I would ask for a longer appointment/treatment. The upper lip can usually tolerate 15 to 30 minutes of treatment; the chin can tolerate much longer.

There are many hair removal facilities that offer electrology treatments and various light and laser device treatments.

Cataphoresis is often used after electrolysis treatments to do exactly as your electrologist says. People who use it - love it.

What type of electrolysis is being performed? You only have 30 hairs total to treat? I’m guessing you may be underestimating that number. The slowest galvanic method treats 1 hair per minute or so, but others treat as many as 5-10 hairs per minute.

What you should be looking for in your treatments is that the hair doesn’t feel like it’s being tweezed, i.e. it should come out without resistance after being zapped. And it should be the full hair coming out, not a part of it (i.e. it shouldn’t break off on the way).

Yes, you should schedule your treatments in a way that clears the area completely. So if it takes 30 mins to do that, then do that. You only need to come in every 2-3 weeks to get that clearance. You can shave and clip hair in between.
