From article in UK newspaper today -
“An antiviral drug may help prevent the growth of unwanted hair.
The drug CIDOFOVIR is widely used to treat viral infections of the eye, but it is new being tested in a rub on gel to tackle hair growth.
This follows the observation that injections of Cidofovir can cause hair loss as a side effect.
Its thought that the immune response triggered by the drug to tackle viruses also affects hair follicles, causing the hair to fall out.
In a trial at the University of Pennsylvania, healthy men will use the gel daily on thier chins for up to six weeks. The hope is that it could then be used as a treatment for women.”
If this drug can damage your kidneys (main side effect) it could may well damage hair. Hair loss was reported, but the drug was given IV (per vein) as opposed to using the topical gel. It is worth studying a topical form though. Many good things are found by accident.
This sound promising :S why there is no more info about that?..??
awe pritty dead here :S
since this drug is already on the market couldnt you get your pharmacist to mix it into a cream and then try it yourself?
Hmmm - as much as I hate the-hair-in-the-places-I-don’t-want-it - all the other side effects kind of make it look not so promising:… rash, headache, diarrhea, hair loss, and shortness of breath… not to mention kidney damage can be permanent and even fatal… possibly reducing hair yet shortening one’s life and maybe spending much of that on dialysis doesn’t seem like a great bargain.
