Hi, I’ve been thinking of getting laser hair removal for years now, but I’ve been too ashamed, embarrassed and scared to take the appropriate steps. I’ve spent over a decade with major depression because of body0image issues. I’ve been reading through posts about laser hair removal and electrolysis. For the most part, it seems that if you have a large area to cover, laser is good with a follow up of electrolysis (correct me if I’m wrong).
I have lots of areas I’d like to treat. My forearms, abdomen, thighs, lower back, and legs. I have pale skin and dark coarse hair. The idea of going to an electrolysis for all these areas seems too daunting a task. It’ll take forever. I live in NYC and have no idea where to start for the right laser hair removal specialist. For some reason, I’d prefer to go to a doctor. I’m too uncomfortable in spa or salon settings. I’d like to read testimonials and hear what others have to say about their specialists. I read the list of questions posted at the top of this forum, but I feel that the specialist can just tell me what I want to hear. Besides, I don’t know the right answer to each question.
lagirl with be with you shortly… I’m sure she will get you pointed in the right direction. Since she’s located in California, she’s probably just waking up!
If you are a good candidate for laser, and sounds like you are, laser followed by electrolysis would be a good choice for you. Being that you are in New York City, you will have no problem getting several consultations so you can settle on who is right for you. Much luck to you and you’ve taken a good first step by reading hairtell.
you are a good candidate for laser with coarse hair. how light is your skin? what type do you think you are? I would recommend you go to a consultation at Romeo & Juliette in NYC who specialize in laser hair removal for your first one. Then, you can check a few others and compare. I would advise you to go to private clinics that specialize in hair removal as they would be most experienced and you would feel most comfortable as this is all they do day in, day out and have seen everything. Your situation doesn’t sound as bad as some on this forum. Many are struggling with facial hair which is much more visible!
I would start with one area and see how it goes. If you like the results, you can add other areas.
This is a real solution and you will be very happy you have taken this one. Don’t be discouraged. You can read my story at the thread below my name if you’d liek to read a personal experience.
Once you let us know what your skin type is, we can help you figure out which laser is best for you. Then, you will have no problems finding the right specialists in your area. NYC has many many clinics.
And yes, laser will remove the bulk of the hair, but once it gets to a point where you only have sparse fine hairs left, you can finish with electrolysis for 100% removal.
p.s. Dee, I’m actually in Texas this week for work! So, in your time zone I believe
Well, HOWDY to LA Gal and welcome to the Great State of Tayksus! Kick up your heels a bit, take some time to relax, and enjoy your stay with us. Hope your visit is a pleasant one and that your memories of Texas are fond ones.
How is it LAgirl that we always miss each other? When I was to be in LA, my client changed the city we were meeting in, thus changing my travel plans to NOT include LA, and now, when we both should have been in Houston, a similar change means we are once again not in the same city at the same time.
Perhaps we shall meet at the HairTell Ten Year Reunion in about 5 years.
Hi, lagirl, thanks for the response. As far as skin type, I think I mentioned I have pale skin or light skin or white skin. I hear I have the best combination for laser since my hair is dark and coarse. I checked out the Romeo and Juliette website. You mentioned it would be good to start off with. Is there a reason why I wouldn’t continue treatments there? Are there any clinics that you would recommend? Specific doctors or specialists I should ask for? I usually get so nervous during any type of consultation that I forget what to ask. And I also don’t want just anyone working on me, I’d like to ask for a specific person who is reputable (too much to ask?).
I was also thinking of using Barbara Leibowitz, C.P.E. for the electrolysis part. I’ve tried searching for reviews, and she seems to be good from what I’ve read (once again, correct me if I’m wrong).
Thanks for your help. It’s much appreciated. I finally feel like I’m taking a step somewhere instead of drowning in my own misery.
