Beneath the card reading 03-03 would be the words “Instantron SS-69” If you could get a picture of the back of this model, I would expect it to say “Tonco 4”
This is a thermolysis/diathermy only model that performs what has become known as “Slow Thermolysis” – this means that it does not perform microflash, or picoflash, or superflash. These regularly sell on Ebay for $100.00 As this is a thermolysis only machine, we don’t recommend it for Home users, as self-directed learning works best if progressed from galvanic only, up to blend, and finally, up to thermolysis. One should only do thermolysis work when one has mastered both insertions and settings. Attempting to learn on a thermolysis only machine is just asking for some permanent scarring.
Any supplies and service you might need for this unit would be readily available from Texas Electrolysis Supply 1-800-626-6025
Thank you for the help. It’s for my wife, she has been working with an electrolysis centre for more than 4 years. we were trying to find out the name as this epilator is not available in UAE. Could you please help me buy this product and accessories as well.
I would appreciate if you could suggest me a better one if you think she can work on a new one without having much problems.
I would strongly suggest that you get something more versatile than this machine. Unless you currently work in such a way as to only use thermolysis, I can not see any reason why a professional would limit oneself to what is available from this unit.
I am not saying that it is not a good machine. It is a reliable workhorse, that would last for years more. I would just like to have the option of using galvanic and blend on any machine that I use, even though I do 95% of all the work that I do in some form of thermolysis/diathermy.
Could you please suggest one considering her 4 years of working experience on Instantron. we also afraid that working on new equipment without training would create problems. As you know, electrolysis training centers are not available in UAE. Also, advise if it is possible to find an used epilator on our forum so that I can probably buy that…
If you are staying with Instantron, you would want to step up from the SS-69 Tronco 4, to the Elite Spectrum. At the very least, the Elite Spectrum can do all modalities, and has autosensor mode for operation without the footswitch. I just wish the auto-delay would allow a setting lower than one second. If I told you what my delay setting is, most people would not believe me.
There just was an Instantron Tronco on eBay that looked almost identical to that one, except it was brown with faux wood paneling, and the case was more angular without the rounded edges. James, is it the same machine with a different case?
You seem to be very serious about a “do-it-yourself” machine. Since many different machines are in use I believe they are all pretty good and last a long time. Many machines were replaced because the electrologist was sold a bill of goods about the new machines. NEWER DOES NOT MEAN BETTER IN SPITE OF ANY ADS YOU MAY SEE. IT IS THEIR JOB TO MAKE YOU BELIEVE THEIR NEWER MACHINES ARE BETTER OR THEY WOULD ONLY SELL A FEW NEW ONES EACH YEAR. MOST ELECTROLOGISTS ARE NOT USING THE NEWEST MACHINES IN SPITE OF THE ADS AND CLAIMS.
Experienced electrologists would try to discourage you FROM TREATING YOURSELF, HOWEVER, A FEW PEOPLE HAVE DONE THIS (VERY FEW). It is virtually impossible for anyone to treat themself because there are areas of the body that can not be reached without someone to do it for your wife. Also, working backwards in a mirror for the facial areas is virtually IMPOSSIBLE. If you learn how to do it you can help her. Try to learn on your own leg. This is how most students learn in school. You can learn how to insert the probe into the follicle. We had to learn and you can too. You stated your wife has done this before, consequently, she can teach you. Women from your part of the world tend to be more hairy, therefore, I can see how big a job you have before you.
First wash the area you will be working on with hot water and soap then dry it. Next take the tweezer and place it on a hair as close to the skin as possible. Pull out a few hairs and note how much hair was below the skin line. This will give you an idea as to how deep you have to insert the probe. Next shave the area to be treated with hot water and soap (as hot as you can stand it. Careful not to burn yourself). Be sure you go against the grain to shave the hair as close to the skin as possible. Wait a week to see how many grow above the skin and these are the ones you will treat as they are growing hairs as opposed to hairs that are not in the growing phase. Now make sure you insert the probe directly into the follicle starting as though the follicle is growing on a slant just like the hair is growing from the follicle opening. Go very slow and STOP WHEN YOU FEEL RESISTANCE. YOU WILL SOON GET THE HANG OF IT. YOU KNOW how long the hair is below the surface and the probe has to go into the follicle that approximate depth. All hair TO BE TREATED is about the same length in that same area. KEEP THE AREA CLEAN AND WIPE ANY FLUID AWAY SO YOU CAN SEE THE PROBE GO IN. THERE SHOULD BE LITTLE OR NO SENSATION OF THE PROBE IF YOU DO IT CORRECTLY AS YOU ARE NOT MAKING A NEW HOLE. YOU ARE GOING INTO A HOLE THAT IS ALREADY THERE, THE FOLLICLE.
Your wife should be able to show you how to determine the settings for the probe. GOOD LUCK AND DO NOT WORK ON THE FACE OR EXPOSED AREAS UNTIL YOU ARE CONFIDENT AS TO WHAT YOU ARE DOING. LEGS ARE FAR FROM THE EYES, CONSEQUENTLY, ANY SCARRING WILL NOT BE NOTICEABLE AS THEY ARE SMALL AND NOT AT THE SAME LEVEL AS THE EYES.
An older epilator would be sufficient for your needs (DIY), but just to comment on lefty’s remarks… for a professional electrologist, who can remove thousands of hairs in a days work, the NEWER better brand computerized epilators that offer the fastest modes of thermolysis, serves their paying clients well, not to mention themself, the electrologist. The fatigue factor is greatly reduced with the MODERN workhorses of the 21st century, such as the higher end Apilus’s, Silhouet-Tone VMC and probably others that I have not had the priviledge to use.
I will sum up my reaction to dear Lefty2g’s remarks in short:
Everyone knows manual transmissions work, and for that matter, the manual ignition cranks used to start the original Ford Model T could still be used just fine. For some reason, however, the overwhelming choice of drivers is to buy cars with automatic transmissions, and so few people even want manual starters that I know of no one even offering them anymore.
Take technology’s sword into your hands, and enjoy the increased bounty that it may offer.
I love this machine. I have two of these babies one in brown($5.99@ Goodwill) and one blue(.99 on ebay).
These machines get VERY HOT!!! Make sure you use on a very low setting 2-4 nothing higher. I only take these out when I have an SRS or GRS emergency. Uni Probe has a very low and slow blend machine for >$2,000 and a Therm for 399.00.
When working on yourself lower and slower is the best.
A lot of ice and tea tree is good for the DYI.
