Need help and guidance with electrolysis! Please!

Hello,

I am new here. Ill give details about myself and what happened and how I got here. In early 2011 I started with laser treatments for my facial hair. I never had alot to begin with just little side burns and few hairs on the chin. I got alot of laser treatments but my situation got worse and worse. I didnt just get aloooooooottt more hair…I also suffered with tons of ingrowns and suffered from serious cystic acne from the laser. I have been waxing my face ever since 2011 to deal with the hair. Waxing is making my skin sensitive and I have been suffering from acne because of it. I decided to get electrolysis done now. I want to start as soon as possible within this week or next week. I have found a really nice place “A.S. Electrolysis” in Toronto. What I want to know is how long does it take to clear the whole face ? I mean like I wont be able to wax in between sessions so can I just get my face fully cleared once within a month…or does it take longer? that way I wont have alot of hair showing on my face. Ill post some pictures… Please tell me how long will it take to get fully treated if any of you know or have any idea?

Sorry forgot to mention…last year I found out i had hormonal balance which i got treated for and now i am completely fine and no issues with hormones… I have noticed some improvement since then but only to some point…nothing major.

Thanks !!

Well, those are some nice big terminal hairs!

The good news is they arent horribly dense. A good electrologist should be able to clear in not a whole lot of time though the neck is obviously going to take the most time. Likely first clearance COULD be something under 5 or 6 hours, that is IF there arent a whole lot of smaller hairs that arent showing up because of the lighting. The other good news is they are nice and dark, which makes the follicles easier to see and insert into.As I dont do professional work take any time estimates I give with a grain of salt, but if you are going in for an hour the electrologist wont make a lot of headway for a bit.And every electrologist works at a different speed.

The bad news, is , just like every other normal person out there, not all of the hair is visible at the moment and can be treated. You will see regrowth and it will take upwards of a year to completely aleviate the situation. But it is very doable.

Early on is going to be when you are the most frustrated with it. Try not to let it get to you.I should also mention that you likely wont be able to sit for 5-6 hours strait. If you try to get a bunch done early on, then split it up into say 3 sessions or you wont be able to stand the pain. The neck is one of the more uncomfortable places to have electrolysis done.

Thankyou for your reply.

I meant like I will be able to get full clearance once in a week or two and then even if more hair grows back ill keep getting them done. I just wanted to know that what should i do in between the treatments to deal with the hair? I cant even talk with people looking them in the eyes because of this. Always worried about being hairy. Can I shave or wax or bleach in between? or After getting one or two full clearances will i be able to just go on without doing anything between each session?

If you’re going for full clearances, and you’re maintaining a schedule, you shouldn’t have to do much of anything inbetween treatments. At the beginning it’s a bit different just because of the density of hair, but since yours isn’t that dense, you could probably clear out everything in a few several-hour sessions, and then they’ll take less and less time to clear everything out.

Definitely do not wax inbetween treatments. You can trim the hairs that remain after your treatment. You can bleach if you want, but the more the hairs match the skin tone, your electrologist probably won’t move as quickly just because the color contrast makes it easier to see.

you could just clip them. That is what I do. I try to do it at least a few days before my next appointment so that there is plenty of length during the appointment. It is annoying, but I just think about how it will be worth it in the end.

Ah I see. As the others have said dont wax. Dont tweeze either. It’s safe to say yourr waxing days are done and you should never touch wax to your face again.

Your hairs are the optimal length right now for removal. The best way to remove them is with an electrolysis probe. It takes me about a month to grow them to that length.

If they are really bothering you, you could try shorter electrolysis sessions more frequently. For example if you are getting an hour at the end of the month, two going for 30-45 minutes every two weeks instead.

It is possible to shorten them with tweezers.

Let me relate an experience. I did a full beard removal or am in process of. I currently have just slightly more than is on your face. In december, it being christmas I did something I dont normally do, I shaved. I had wanted a couple days of peace. For the last month I’ve noticed something. There were hairs showing that werent complete hairs. Alongside he growing hair were a lot of black what looked like short stubble. In doing electrolysis on these, I pulled them out to reveal…NOTHING! no root, just maybe a millimeter of hair stuck in my skin. There were dozens! Eventually I just tested them with tweezers and 90% of them came out no issue , no root, no resistance. It seems like these were either bits of hair left previously or they were hairs in exogen that had been shaved…and since then have slowly made their way to the surface to eject, and that 1 mm of hair was just hanging out of the follicles. This, is because I shaved over christmas! So while trimming with scissors is perfectly fine,I’d recommend NOT shaving, and if they really are bothering you, go for an electrolysis session, even if it’s a short one.

Was your hormonal imbalance related to PCOS? It is not always easy to diagnose PCOS. How did you resolve your imbalance?

So, are you saying that some laser reduction treatments caused this too?

If I were seeing a case like yours, it would take 3-5 hours to fully clear your face and neck, with one of my thermolysis modes. Thereafter, you would need several shorter appointments every two to three weeks up to about the sixth month. After that, we would need to see each other every 4-6 weeks until there was nothing bothering you. This process takes anywhere from 12- 18 months if you stay close to an electrologist that balances the energy and disables the hair follicle the FIRST time it is attacked.

Dangit Dee, where is my “like” button?

Once again you have said concisely what I was struggling to. When I came up with my random numbers, it was SPECIFICALLY you I was thinking of. How long would this take Dee?

Thanks all for your help…

No i dont have PCOS…I just had low levels of estrogen thats all…and that happened around july 2013…and I know for sure that laser treatments caused this because I started getting more hair inbetween the treatments itself but i kept getting more thinking that it will get better but nope it didnt.

Like that pink “Like it” meme, Seana. I’m going to “steal” that idea from you, so don’t be surprised if you see it sometime soon !

I didn’t read the replies, just quickly putting in my 2 cents.

I would say about an hour for the first clearance. I don’t think this would take over 90 minutes to clear. Repeat about 5 times, every couple of weeks. By then it will start taking half the time to clear, and you will only have finer hairs regrowing. 5-6 months into it you will be using most of your appointment time to start on some new areas ;o)

Body hair is usually less resilient than facial, so you will be okay in “no time”.
(As long as you have a decent electrologist)

Good luck!

Thanks !! I got abnormal hair growth just on my face and its only because of laser so hopefully I’ll be good in 5-6 months  as most of you guys have said…

Dee, I am confused to know how she can go 2-3 weeks between sessions. Wouldn’t other hairs pop up before then? I have been going weekly for electrolysis on my face with sessions lasting 45 minutes to an hour for over 5 months now and couldn’t imagine going 2-3 weeks with the hair that grows back. Is my electrologist doing something wrong?

Your electrologist is doing nothing wrong. Your hair is probably a little more denser than hers is all.I regularly will sometimes go 2-3 weeks without touching an area.It does make the hairs longer and more noticeable but if anything that makes them easier to remove.

Remember that you notice the hair more than anyone else does. People dont go around staring at your face. But you do.

Hello everyone,

I am back with some more questions…Can I get ND:Yag laser treatments for my hair type? Will it work? I researched alot…and it says if used the wrong energy settings for laser hair removal it will stimulate hair growth…the person that did laser treatments on me was new and I think I was her first patient. She had no experience whatsoever and I think thats what caused adversed effect of laser on my face. I am thinking of maybe getting 2 or 3 Yag laser removal sessions and see if its working. If it works well then Ill do the full treatment and if any regrowth…ill transition to electrolysis then. Please advice me what to do.
