Need advice on how to proceed

Hi,

I would like to permanently remove my upper lip hair. So far, I’ve visited two electrolysis places and have received unsatisfactory answers. The first place I went to said the hair was light and fine and no need for electrolysis. I brought the issue up to the same person at my 2nd visit (both visits were for removal of the hair on my chin/neck) but she dismissed it again.
Then, I decided to go visit another electrolysis place and made my visit specific to upper lip hair. The person there attempted to remove the hair from the corners of the upper lip where the hair was the darkest and longest. They removed 13 hairs from one side and 10 from the other (I know because I counted the beeps). After that she became frustrated as her needles kept bending. She said she was using the smallest needle they had as the others were too big for my follicle size. She soon gave up and said that the rest of the hairs are too fine for electrolysis. They don’t have smaller needles that can treat my follicles. According to her, the follicle has to be bigger than the needle for it to be destroyed. Does this make sense, is it really true?

Even though both ladies claim that my hair is too fine for electrolysis I find it very noticeable and would like a permanent solution.

The hairs on my upper lip are indeed fine, but they are also light brown and very long and dense. The fact that they are dense and long makes them very visible. From reading about electrolysis I was under impression that these hairs would be treatable…but now I’m not sure. Should I seek out a third opinion or just give up and start waxing? (I’ve never used any hair removal products on my upper lip before)

…I’ve also asked about laser removal and they’ve said the hair was too light and fine for laser to be effective.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to proceed?

Thanks in advance!

If you can see, the electrologist can see. You should keep looking for someone. You still do not pull the towel. The smaller needle easily penetrates through the hair like peach fuzz.

Well, I am disappointed to hear that you were discouraged from treating those finer hairs. I know that you are bothered by them and it is possible to get rid of that kind of hair.

Go to as many electrologists that you can and get more info. Seeing the kind of hair you describe IS possible to remove. I specialize in this kind of removal, so I know it is possible. If you can find an electrologist that has surgical magnification, a good lighting source and they know how to position you properly, this kind of hair can be successfully treated. It can be hard on the electrologist to do finer hair, so they may tell you that it is not necessary, but you are seeking a service, you are willing to pay for their expertize, so should you be denied? Most don’t like this kind of work and some just can’t see what you see because of their set up. I am of the opinion that you should not be turned away because they think you look just fine. Keep shopping for an electrologist that is skilled at removing fine light hair as well as very coarse hair. If you can’t find anyone reach farther from home if this means a lot to you. Good luck.

Josefa and Dee are absolutely correct. If you can see these hairs, a competent and caring electrologist should be able to easily see and treat them for you. If it is not so large an area with not so many hairs, they may think it is not worth their time to treat you. If that is the case, you definitely should find a different electrologist. With some rare exceptions, the client/customer is always correct and should be the first priority. Finding the right electrologist can sometimes be a more difficult effort than actually treating the hairs. This is an unfortunate reality and the reason why personal referrals are so valuable.

Some electrologists choose not to treat those fine hairs. Keep looking!

You might even ask when you call: Do you treat fine hairs?

Thanks for all your replies. It’s great to hear that someone will be able to treat my hairs. I’m encouraged again and I’ll keep looking.

Thanks!
