Need Advice - Laser F/Type IV

Hi All,

I am a female - IV skin type.

I have had about 12 laser hair removal sessions with American Laser Center. (I believe my first 6 sessions were with an IPL and the last 6 were with a diode laser). I did not get good results with them and my technicians were always changing.

I have decided to try a new office and new laser - GentleMax (I had my first session on underarms with the GentleLase on settings of 18 mm and 9 j) Do you think this was too low for me? The tech said with my skin type she didn’t want to set the joules too high and did not want to cause hyperpigmentation.

On a side note- I saw a groupon deal for $99 for 6 sessions on the underarms or bikini with the cutera cool glide laser. Do you think I should try this one out for the price or stick with GentleLase? (I am paying $75 for each underarm session).

The settings are not good. If you are skin type 4, they should use the Gentlemax on the YAG side with low pulse width and high energies.

Thanks Chris, what pulse width and high energy level should I suggest to the tech?

Although the place you’re going to has a better laser, I’d suggest you stay away from it as they are charging a lot and are plain fools( or cheaters)

The CoolGlide deal seems good. You don’t need a great laser to treat underarm hair anyway as it is usually coarse. On CoolGlide, the preferred spot size is 10mm. You should look for 40+ joules and pulse width 30 ms or below. Before you commit to the deal, go and have a patch test and report the settings here. All the best!
