ND YAG vs Soprano XL (NEED INPUT PLEASE HELP)

Hi,

I am of Pakistani decent, with dark black hair. I wouldn’t say my skin complexion is really dark brown, but more towards the lighter side.

I’m about to go on my 10th treatment for my back/shoulders/upper arms.

I do see vast improvement but I am worried its not permanent. My last appointment was in November and due to some rescheduling, I am now going this weekend (supposed to go in late january). But I am noticing my hair has been growing back, especially in January and I’m already on my 10th treatment. The people that work there tell me that it takes about 15 treatments for full results. Do you think they’re bullshitting me?

On top of that, the person who treats me left the company and jumped ship to another laser center. She doesn’t do ND YAG, but Soprano XL… and she wants me to jump ship as well. Do you guys prefer for me to use ND YAG over Soprano XL? Should I buy another 5?

Laser works on dark COARSE hair only. It doesn’t work on fine hair. Fine hair may shed with laser treatments but within 6 treatments of stopping treatments, it all comes back.

Unless the hair is coarse and fairly dense, men should not treat their back, shoulders and upper arms as ALL these areas are prone to laser induced growth, especially on skin types IV and V, which you seem to be considering your ethnicity.

6-8 treatments are more than enough if you have laser-able hair to begin with.

Soprano XL doesn’t get good reviews here. There are no clinical studies proving its effectiveness. I’d advise you stay away from it. Yag lasers are pretty good for our skin type.

Do you know what settings were being used on you? Joules, pulse width and spot size?

Also, how were the sessions spaced apart? I hope once in every 8-10 weeks and not once a month.

If you post a picture, we’d be able to advise you better.

Thanks for the response MumbaiGirl.

I do have dark / coarse hair by the way.

I just finished my tenth treatment, but I’m still not 100% satisfied. I see hair growing back still, in a quantity I’m not impressed with.

I have no idea what settings are being used on me by the way. I never asked, I guess that was dumb of me. I know my skin is very sensitive to the laser. It hurts me more than most people. So maybe they decreased the setting to make it more suitable for me? I’m not sure.

My sessions were spaced out every 4 weeks for the first 3-5 treatments… and then 6-8 weeks for the rest of the way. I will admit though, that for a 2-3 treatments, I did miss my appointmenet causing me to wait 10 weeks before my next appointment. Not sure how much that would affect me.

So my question is what the heck do I do now? I still am willing to spend $, but only if I can see guaranteed results. Should I go back to the same place? Try another laser besides NDYAG?

  1. Post a picture of the area to be treated. We need to see how your hair growth is.

  2. Call your clinic and ask for settings for EACH treatment. If possible, the dates too.
