I am a 20 year old girl who’s in college (and also half italian), and I have been cursed with having rather dark (though no one else can really notice it but me) vellus body hair. However I think it is my stomach that aggravates me the most since I would give anything in the world to just have it hairfree. My question: Is it even possible to do the abdoman area and if so, what would the average cost of this treatment be? Again, sorry if something like this has already been posted, but I’m quite curious!
No problem. Thanks for your question. Yes, indeed it is possible to thin or clear your abdomen of all noticable hair. Just put the time on the table up front and find an electrologist that uses good tools with skill.
Cost and time issues are dependent on how much hair you have, the hair structure and the speed and skill of the electrologist. Is it in the proper stage of growth? You can wax once before you start electrolysis to help assure that new hair is being treated.
Most of my clients are pretty well wrapped up by month 9 or 12 of properly spaced treatments. The hair should release easily after it is treated, but sometimes you will feel a pop from those big rooted hairs. Certain parts can be ouchy. Just communicate with your practitoner so a tolerable level of intensity and timing can be found.
Bleaching smaller darker hairs is very satisfying to many people with your situation. Have you tried that yet?

I had this area done. Any area is possible to do with electrolysis. You have to commit to 9-12 months of treatments, spaced anywhere from 1 week to 3-4 weeks apart. Electrolysis removes hair one by one and a good electrologist removes 5-10 hairs per minute. What you currently see is about 30% of all the hair you have. So you can calculate yourself how many hours of treatments you’ll need. It depends on how much hair you have as you can see.
Sounds pretty awesome to me! How much did it cost you out of curiousity?
It’s hard to say since I got several other areas done at the same time. I would estimate about $1.5K total for this area (I spent about $2.5K total on stomach, eyebrows, upper lip and finishing underarms and bikini after laser), but once again, it’s hard to say. All my treatments involved treating other areas, so out of an hour treatment, I would get that area and other areas done too. Took about 1.5 yrs as I was adding areas as it went. You can read my story at the link below. Laser and electrolysis story is in the same thread.
My plan (depending how good my college job pays)
2X a week with one hour sessions
As time progresses, I may get my upper lip worked on, and eventually (not sure exactly when)
-My lower back
-The little hyena stripe (that’s what I call it) running from the back of my neck down the lower back
-Buttocks area
God this is going to cost me a TON… -.-
If you think that is expensive, you should see what it costs to remove an entire male beard
Seriously though, think of it as a lifetime investment. Think of all the money you will spend over your lifetime, buying razors, or bleaching kits, or having the unwanted hair waxed professionally. Also add in how much time it takes you to do any of those things (and the gas to drive back and forth to a salon if you get it waxed) and multiply it by what your time is worth in dollars times the number of times a year you have to deal with the hair times the years of your lifetime. You will still come out far ahead with electrolysis
If money is holding you back, you could have one area cleared, and a year later do the other area. It will 1 1/2 - 2 years but at least then you will be done with it all for a lifetime.
Very true, the sooner I can get this started, the better I will feel for sure!
The upper lip will be the easiest and fastest. It only took me 8-10 ten-minute treatments. So under $300 total.
Have you considered laser Jaganess? If not, why?
Her hair is mostly fine and vellus. Laser only works on coarse hair.
This can’t be reiterated enough, lagirl.
Properly performed electrolysis on the upper lip is highly effective for all hair structures and the varying ranges of hair colors and skin colors.
It simply works well.
In my opinion, one should only think of electrolysis for the upper lip from start to finish because an upper lip has a mixture of hair colors and structures that laser alone can’t handle.
Do you have any documented research to back up your claim?
My hair is definately not coarse enough for laser hair removal. Plus the fear of sprouting dorment hair absolutely terrifies me, I want to be rid of it, not grow it!
I’ll stick with the electrolysis, it seems the safest and most promising in the long run. =P
