Hey everyone, I have been using these forums for quite some time now and finally decided to get LHR done on my lower body.
I want to share with you my experience so far with LHR. First of all, for those living in the Toronto area that are looking for a LHR clinic, I have had consultations at over 12 places in the GTA and would like to offer my recommendation. In my oppinion Sunnybrook hospital was the best choice for me, however the prices are higher here than at most clinics. I chose to have my LHR done at Sunnybrook Hospital for several reasons.
- The LHR clinic is affiliated with the hospital.
2)LHR is performed by a dermatolgist.
-
They have a great reputation and been performing LHR for 10 + years.
-
Every dermatologist has years of experience with LHR and are very knowledgable.
-
The LHR wing at Sunnybrook hospital is very clean and welcoming.
-
They use GENTLELASE which was appropriate for my skin type.
I have skin type 2 and was treated by the director of LHR at Sunnybrook hospital, Howard Bargman. He used the Alexandrite laser – Gentlelase – 18mm spot size, 18 joules. I have had my entire legs done including my buttocks. The treatment was split into three sessions based on the advice of my technician. Lower legs, upper legs and buttocks each on a different day spaced 3-4 days apart. I experienced almost 100% shedding within 2-3 weeks. There was a few missed spots but he asked me to come in for a touchup appointment and treated these free of charge. I did experience some bruising on my upper legs but this totally went away within 1 week after treatment. It has been about 1 month since my treatment and am currently experiencing a hair free period. I will post again once the hair grows and I get a second treatment on this area.
Just a few things I want to add
1)I have had both LHR and electrolysis done and in my opinion LHR is far more painful than electrolysis. I did not use EMLA or any form of pain relief. With LHR the pain is really cumulative. 1 zap isn’t bad, it’s 6-7 consecutive zaps that ends up hurting in the end but it is bearable. My tech used 2 forms of skin cooling for my first treatment – the cryogen from the gentlelase and a vacuum that blows cold air – it still hurt a lot. For my second treatment he added an icepack and my god… this helps so much. I would 100% recommend asking for them to use an icepack on the area, this makes treatment way less painful and believe me you will thank me for this tip Don’t expect LHR not to hurt and definitely use an icepack, it helps a ton.
2)Use refrigerated Aloe gel post treatment – it helps with the redness and sunburn feeling you get after treatment.
3)Don’t expect the treatment area to look amazing after treatment or even weeks after. You are going to be dealing with pepperspots for quite some time. They are annoying and don’t look that great. These will eventually shed or get burned off at your next appointment keep that in mind.
So, if you are looking for a LHR clinic in the Toronto area please do yourself a favor and check out the LHR clinic at Sunnybrook Hospital. Keep in mind the prices are a bit more expensive and you do have to pay a $100 consultation fee. I will keep this thread updated.
I just want to say a big thanks to Lagirl for all your help and support you have been instrumental in helping me make the decision to pursue LHR.
