My Laser Update

Some of you may remember back in January, when I had the laser hair removal that went wrong. On my third underarm treatment, something was off and I got badly burned. I posted pics at the time. The laser center never did decide what it was that happened, but to their credit they did refund the rest of the packages. Sadly, to this day I still have vague “scorch” marks in my armpits. Fortunately (!) the hair has grown back and the scars are hard to see.

Needless to say, I won’t be having laser again. I was a skeptic beforehand, but I thought that the field had come a long way. The first two sessions were ok, but I knew right away the third one was different because it hurt much, much more and felt different. After the session, I was in severe pain and suffered greatly for several days. I even went to my doctor, who didn’t know what to do. I have very pale skin and dark hair (an “ideal” candidate) and to this day don’t know why I was burned.

If there’s anything to take from this, it’s “pay attention to your body and don’t be afraid to say STOP!” I even mentioned to the tech how much more the pain was (and I am used to pain, having had loads of facial electrolysis) bue she assured me it was because the settings were a little bit higher. I assumed “they must know what they’re talking about” and let them continue. In a way I am lucky. Had I been having large areas done (like chest and back) I would have been very seriously injured.

So, if you must have laser, if anything feels different ask them to stop right away. I wish I had.
