My Laser Journey - Starting 2010

Tomorrow is the consultation. I would need to report back here the settings but also need 24 hours notice for Monday if I decide to cancel. I think I will cancel for now, go for the consultation tomorrow and book for later just in case. I also thought the same about the density of the hair. I’m thinking maybe I should book with the lady I talked to as she seems more flexible.

I would ask for whoever is the most experienced tech in the clinic.

I think it must be her because stoppit has had experience with others. I really should try out the hospital.

I got a call from the lady who treats me today but it went to my answer phone. She said she saw I am booked in for a test patch today so she was wondering why when they have already test patched my arms and legs, so to call her back to save me the trouble of the journey. I’m worrying what I said yesterday to the other lady won’t get through to her. HELP.

To anyone reading this who may think I am clueless (lol):

I’ve just spent a lot of time researching about the Lightsheer and I am reading an echo of LAgirl’s posts:

If it’s under 25J it’s not going to be effective in the long-term so we’re better off switching to the YAG.

I just got a call from the laser clinic and the lady who does my treatments asked me why I wanted a test patch. I said to her after research etc. I have found that it’s not going to be as effective etc. etc. and I want to try the Yag.

I didn’t really like the way she was talking to me. She was talking without pausing and just saying “me being the professional for 5 years I know what your skin is like and simply researching isn’t going to determine blah blah blah”.

She said to me the Lighstsheer is good on lighter skin and coz your fair it will pick up the melnanin in your skin tone whereas the Yag won’t give good results as it would be better for darker skin and it won’t really work on you.

:s

Just re read this - our settings seem similar. It does hurt a lot, but they also don’t want to switch lasers. I actually found 22/20 Joules on legs okay so fingers crossed on Monday they’ll go 25 and up.

They will not use 25J on Monday unless that area has already has been test patched for 25J.

I keep on repeating that they will not use settings that have not been test patched previously. I’m not sure why this isn’t getting through.

At tomorrow’s appointment, they will test patch some higher settings at the end for next time. But for the actual treatment tomorrow, they can only use the highest they have test patched thus far.

Okay, I thought what they’d do is for example, they test patched me at 20/22 so if they try out 25, they’ll continue with it if it seems okay. Nevermind then.

They won’t know if a setting is ‘okay’ without waiting at least 24 hours.

What can seem ‘okay’ when you have it done can develop into scaling or a burn after a few hours.

Thank you for your reply. This is still a learning process for me so everything I’m taking is valuable to my experience

Today I forgot to take a tablet, but the place that hurt the most was the ankle, which I probably would have found better if I had taken a tablet. Still, it wasn’t like I was jerking, but I was thinking ow, ow, ow. Lol.

Everything is the same in the settings apart from the number on the joules.

First we did arms - 20 Joules which I could bare.

Then legs, the ankles hurt most and that was on 18 Joules, then thighs were 20/22.

I did notice my skin is quite light but as pointed out, that’s probably because it hasn’t seen the sun in years (I don’t go without it covered as I don’t really want my sin to be affected).

My pain threshold is okay-ish but better if I take a tablet. Or maybe I just need to switch machines. Anyway, I’m booking a consultation with the hospital to see what they’d use on me because I can’t imagine going up to 25J on the Lighstheer on the bikini line, so I’d rather be treated by another laser - let’s see what happens.

You’re going to experience pain with good settings - you SHOULD be experiencing quite a bit of pain. Like I mentioned before, you shouldn’t be looking for the least pain you can handle. If you can’t handle it, you should be using a numbing cream. In terms of settings, you should only go by what your skin can handle safely without burning. Pain shouldn’t be a factor.

Yea, my skin reacts fine, or almost no reaction at all except for arms which look red and bubbly, but my legs I actually wouldn’t mind if higher, but now I have the next two months to look around I hope.

I think I am burnt :open_mouth: or have hyperpigmentation on my knee/just above my knee.

What does it look like exactly? Can you take a picture? A burn type would have been ‘hot’ and painful right from after treatment up to 12-24 hours later.

I’ve been burned and it felt sore and painful immediately, then turned blackish a day or two later and was sore and ITCHY as heck. It healed up within a week and was no big deal to me after that.

What is the “burn” like? A description or photo could help.

It’s probably hyperpigmentation then. My arms and legs feel so itchy like when it does a few days after shaving. I’ll get a picture here soon.

Itchy is normal. Use clear Aloe Vera gel, cooled in the fridge.

Pigmentation is actual discoloration of the skin for more then 3 days. Burn is similar to a sunburn.

Red inflamed follicles are normal for up to 3 days.

It’s decreased a little today so I don’t think there is a point in me placing a picture - but it basically looks like when you’ve grazed your knee and it is healing and it’s like half bloof/half not. So it’s like a really dark purplish colour surrounded by lighter pin, but broken-ish looking. It should fade looking at it.

^That’s scaling. It should heal pretty quickly and leave no mark.
