MY INTENSE OUT OF TOWN CONSULTS REPORTS!

Am in a bit of a mad rush searching for good place to possible do 3rd LHR treatment and get started on electrolysis on face. This is all happening while I am here, out of town, as I can not find anyone in my home town. Trying to find places to consult though it is literally like choosing blindfolded !
So i am under serious time pressure to find a good person/place and get going before I must leave to return home !!
Please understand if I post a few emergency questions here over the next few days! I REALLY APPRECIATED THE REPLIES I GET HERE!

Re: Electrolysis- Found a place here that uses machine called Sequential by Silhouette . Any thing i should know good or bad about that?? She says it is something everyone will be using once the patent is out as there is zero pain and very effective . She also said it uses thermolysis and something else together. Her ad says blend treatments…my consult is tommorow so I will report back!
Re: Laser- Appointment with place that has a alexandrite ( gentlelase) and one called Duet. Anyone know about the Duet? They say it is the most advanced laser for HR and preferable. Appointment tomorrow so will reprot back. Their prices are WAY higher than anywhere ive seen and much higher than what i paid at the place with coolglide YAG back home so unless the yag is really wasting my time i may just stick to it. I WISH I COULD FIND A cheaper place with an ALEX here ( Winnipeg, Canada) but so far no luck!

The Sequentium 328 is a good, mid-range machine. I wouldn’t go for painless, but it’s much more comfortable than what many other places are using. When I was using mine, I’ve had clients who were ready to stop the session short and leave, because they were not feeling the pain that they were used to with other electrologists. It’s a workhorse, and it’s currently my back up machine. Sequentium VMC by Silhouet-Tone is the new generation of that machine, and is tops.

Regarding laser, Why are you using YAG if you can use Alexandrite for your skin tone?

Thanks YB. If i had my CHOICE in the matter for Laser i would be in New York with Chris at Romeos and for electrolysis I would be in Malaga Spain ( dancing flamenco!) and seeing Josefa after having seen Josefa’s amazing photos here !

Regarding lasers, Cool glide Yag is the ONLY choice they have in my town for LHR. I have had one session ( low leg, underarm, bikini) and am scheduled for 2 more.I paid for a total of three sessions.

I did travel to another city for my second LHR session ( undarm, face, lwer legs , lower arm, xtend bikini) ,and though she had an Agopee with Yag and Alex sides , She chose to use yag everywhere ( on what i was told here were very low settings) and alex only on face. I didn’t have the research done about this or i would have pushed for the alex side. When i asked later why not the alex , once i had learned here that Alex was best for my light skin ( 2-maybe 3 , no tan, dark hair) ,she said that was outdated info about alex being better than Yag ,simply because alex had been around longer and , that alex is better for the lighter color hair…
( more on that in detail on another of my threads if you are interested http://www.hairtell.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/97460/Re_Equivalent_settings_between.html#Post97460)

Eleclrotlysis in my town is also very limited and has been a heartbreaking experience as you can read here: http://www.hairtell.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/97434/Re_So_disappointed_that_i_brok.html#Post97434

So I can not find anyone at home that feels good. I am only doing the sideburns of my female face. If that goes well i might try other areas continuing in the beard area and maybe do sides of stache too.

I would WAY rather have shorter frequent treatments at home of course if I could find someone! I had given up on this dream until i was told here that long distance electrolyse can be successful.
Soooo here i am now in another bigger city with limited time and the hunt is ON !! I am on phone and trying to book consults with enough time to choose someone and get started. No recommendations can i find so I must really rely on this feedback here ! It was Josefa’s thread that renewed my hope that I can have great success with Electrolysis even if out of town and treatments every few months.

I had one consult today with an electrolysist. I am going to run into this repeatedly so I must say that MANY of these places have electrolysis and laser and they seem to genuinely be suggesting laser to me as it is much less expensive , less time ( considering i will travel in for treatments)and less risk of hyper pigmentation which I am prone to, especially if i have hour long sessions to cover sideburns. I have heard the pros and cons and seem to read alot here on this forum that laser is not as effective on face and there is greater risk of growth kicking in as a result of laser. But these techs that do both say that they have had many great results with their laser on the sides of the face even with fine hair as long as it is dark in color. It is really hard to believe they would lie, as they stand to make more money with their elecrlsysis and they seem sincere! so what to believe???

Today electrolysis was this conversation above so i must make up my mind on this topic SOON! Anyways her electrolysis was great though i noticed that she also forgot to sanitize my area before and after! I think we were just talking too
much so i wont hold it against her. She has been in business electrol 25 years LHR also since 05.
Her machine she LOVES after having tried many . In fact she said if i could find another she would purchase it in a flash. It is a German machine called E95 by Heitland . It does not not have any sort of computer , it is fully manual, so no foot pedal, no buzzer or sensor sounds and she enjoys that she is free to treat each hair individually. She does not feel it is treated till it slides out. A couple of my test hairs she treated a few times and they did not come out, however the majority felt fine and slid out. Our session went well. She would rather not treat me in long sessions of an hour ( SIDE burn area) as she is concerned about my possible reaction towards sensitive skin and hyper pigmentation so though she is able she feels perhaps it is better to do a few half hour sessions instead before i leave. She does feel i would have great results on the dark hairs with laser and that it could be done while i am here. Her laser is Elos. My sense is that if i do become convinced to try laser on the sides of my face i should go with the gentleLase other expensive place here in this city as face is such an important area to do right.
As far as electrolysis ( and laser ) i have a few more consults booked so will report back. Your detailed info and replies REALLY will help me to make the right choices in such limited time !! THANK YOU

Regarding the electrolysis machine question, without the number or letter name of the machine, we can’t tell you anything, as all Silhouet-Tone machine names start with something like that, followed by either a number, or letter combination. thanks yb for putting in a run down of some of the models identifiers.

When it comes to incentive to steer you to LASER vs Electrolysis, there is one thing you are not thinking of, and that’s effort. While one may be able to charge one person more money for the comparatively longer electrolysis session, the money one makes doing LASER requires MUCH LESS physical exertion on the part of the practitioner. It is like asking why a person would steer you towards buying an automated machine made shirt off the rack, when a custom tailored one would make them more money. The answer is, of course, dollars per hour, and effort expended by the individual. The automated shirt maker, can crank out a shirt in 5 minutes with the push of a button. Twelve shirts per hour. Which would you think the average person would be more likely to do, push a button 12 times in an hour, for $20 to 30 each, or do all that measuring, cutting, checking, pining, stitching and so on, in order to make $100.00?

Since I can do men’s sideburns in less than 4 hours, any day of the week, I can tell you that there are people out there who can do your lady hairs in less than 4 hours, and with a good skin result. You just have to find them.

Thank you James. nice to hear from YOU!
I can totally understand what you are expressing regarding the amount of work etc. The Tech that i met yesterday was really nice and seemed fast too . HAve you heard of her machine. (It is a German machine called E95 by Heitland . It does not not have any sort of computer , it is fully manual, so no foot pedal, no buzzer or sensor sounds and she enjoys that she is free to treat each hair individually.) I believe all the numbers of her machine are there as she was very open about it. Sometimes when you ask about the machine over the phone when hoping to book initial consult they are less giving with details so i am just sharing what i can manage to get. . Although my first electro tech consult had been doing electro for many years she seemed to be pushing the laser because of a concern about hyper pigmentation by doing sideburns in a few visits rather than what she seemed to suggest was less invasive laser. ALso all her success photos were from laser and she didnt have any on electro patients. However I DO agree with what you have said and I am going much more toward the electro although i have to tell you these blind consults with people putting probes into my face when i have no record of their skill is VERY SCAREY !!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR FEEDBACK> IT IS MY LIFELINE TO SHORE AT THIS TIME!!!

If one limits the work done to about a square inch, one can tell what the results of treatment should be in a short treatment. If one really had reservations, one would do the consult on the legs, as that is less visible to the public. The problem with this, however, is that leg work is easier than face work, and therefore is NOT a good judge of what that person will be able to do on the more difficult face follicles.

As for the incentive thing, even in electrolysis, there is a premium paid for bikini area work, and yet, most practitioners would prefer to work a day full of face work, than a day filled with bikini work. I won’t even schedule two bikini jobs on the same day. It is just too much work.

Laser can work ok on the face, for some women… whether or not you are prone to laser induced stimulation is based on your individual genetics/homones.

If your hairs are thick/coarse like a male’s beard then it is highly likely you will get laser induced stimulation, if they are fine but dark then it is less likely but still possible.

In either case, electrolysis is a better solution in my opinion.

Thanks so much for your input . I had two more consults today, one decent one with an electolysist ( MY LEAST FAV WORD TO SPELL CAN U TELL ?!!) and a very strange one with a top notch and top price laser doctor. The laser Dr. i would NEVER go to based on the misleading web info , the horrible consult and jacked up prices . PERHAPS i would pay those high prices for my face and an expert but that IS NOT the sense i got from the consult.
I am feeling exhausted so I will write a fuller report later… I have a few more consults but I am tired and may just decide by tomorrow on one of the two electros i have seen here and skip all the rest of the consults.

James, the electro i saw today works at a place that did not look so clean, not a great area of town but does only electro full time, treat many trans folk and seems perhaps more knowledgable than others I have met . They have several people working there so you see whoever is available at the time. But since i will only be here for 12 days and she only thought i needed one or two appointments I could see the same tech. She did not seem as compassionate and caring , careful as the more mature woman with the manual Heitland machine ,who had her own place for 30 years whom i mentioned in yesterdays report above . She is a bit harder, younger and pierced tattooed , etc but she did seem confident and knowledgable. She was also the first person i’ve seen so far who cleaned the area before and after ! She charges 75. for an hour but also seems to work fairly quickly and said she can do approx 800 hairs in half an hour, or maybe that was an hour. I cant remember. She uses the Sequentium VMC but that is all the info i could get on the machine. She said it is the cadillac of machines and she says is better than the all manual one that the previous woman i had seen uses. She said she would schedule an hour and do that in half hour segments on both sides of sideburns and see how i react. HOPEFULLY THAT IS NOT TOO MUCH FOR MY SENSITIVE , HYPER PIGMENT PRONE SKIN? If that goes well and we need more time i can schedule another hour before i leave. DO YOU THINK THAT IS A GOOD PLAN OR SHOULD I DO SMALLER SEGMENTS SUCH AS HALF HOUR TOTAL AND MORE APPOINTMENTS as the first woman was wanting to do.
The sideburn area hair is brown and fine and not very much of it , sort of a narrow triangle from ear out and down . She did say that she would work a wide area instead of clearing a patch so that if it wasn’t done with clearing before I return it would not grow out as a bare patch that stands out and it would blend better. Should i ask to change to a patch or that or does that sound like a good plan. She does have a 24 hr cancellation policy so i will have to decide by noon tomorrow.

PLEASE HELP! and PLEASE excuse my questions today but I feel very pressured for time, not enough time to research, am out of town and will begin intensive Electro tommorow with someone I have only met once ! YES I AM NERVOUS but i must decide to day who I will go with. I am siding towards girl B because the machine seems good,as YB said here , though it is a little scarier for other reasons mentioned above. I am more comfortable with the first consult older woman A who has done just electro for 30 years but not sure that the machine is as good . I HOPE I make the best choice. I am nervous cuz it is my FACE, i am out of town so need to do more intensive sessions and i do tend to hyper pigment.

So my main questions; I just dont have the chance to do the searching right now so would very much appreciate the help. ;))

is that the GIRL B was also suggesting that i do this in combo with using kalo hair inhibitor which they sell. ( they do do more than electro there , perm makeup, skin treatments etc) She said Especially because I live out of town and it would help to reduce growth before i can return. I was just planning on shaving between but is that Kalo a good idea or ?
I also would love to know the ideal pre and post treatment skin care. What is the best numbing creme and how do i best use it before appoint. Should i put any moisturizer etc on skin for session ? Afterwards is it just aloe or the aloe and tea tree? ALso if there is sun the next few days after do i put sunscreen on it or is it ok to just wear a hat , cover with hair etc. I wonder if sunscreen cremes might irritate it.

And my other question is regarding best way to clear the area considering i am not going to be back for treatment again for a couple months…
(taken from above )
The sideburn area hair is brown and fine and not very much of it , sort of a narrow triangle from ear out and down . She did say that she would work a wide area instead of clearing a patch so that if it wasn’t done with clearing before I return home it would not grow out as a bare patch that stands out and it would blend better. I do plan to shave the area so i dont think anyone would really know if there is a clear patch. I had thought i had read that it is best to clear the area as best possible if only accessing treatments every few months. Should i ask to change that idea to clear in a patch ?
She would schedule an hour and do that in half hour segments on both sides of sideburns and see how i react. I do have enough time to go back as I am still here for next week too. It is a busy place so I will need to book my times…

I would say that you should remember that the thing you are paying for is the skill of the practitioner, and the results you live the rest of your life with.

The ST-S-VMC is a wonderful machine.

Keep us posted on your results.

It went really well James! MAkes me wish i lived here ! I’ve been doing ALOT of reading on this forum and I have to say you are quite a wonderful soul James! Pleased to meet the pros!

Thank you for your kind words.
You would not believe what some people think of my efforts around here.

My out of town electrolysis is going good. I wish i could take her home with me!! She seems fast, and it is a WAAAAY better experience than the local place that did my eyebrows for 2+ years without success!
I was hoping to do a clearing as in what Josefa describes as I am out of town and can only do it now. She only scheduled me for 2 one hour appointments within the 10 days i have available her for this . What is disappointing is that she does not use good light at all, just a fluorescent over hear and close up glasses with no light. So looking at my sideburn area in the poor fluorescent office light it all looked quite cleared but as soon as i got home and looked in better light i could see that there was ALOT of hair still there, far from a clearing. I can see this is going to be a long , drawn out and expensive road ! Or perhaps a trip to New york or Spain to see a total pro is the only way to go and would actually save money in the long run ???

You may well find that a trip or 3 to visit Josefa would be well worth it in the long run.
